Default My best mate is in hospital(vet)

Tonight my best mate is in vet hospital...long story cut short he cut his paw on a piece of tin...just at the ankle of his front left paw.

Lots of blood everywhere and his girlfriend trying to help it was a bit chaotic for a few minutes...luckily we have a tiled floor so cleaned up ok when I got back.

Luckily the vet was visiting from Gympie down at Tin Can Bay( they only visit on Tuesday and Thursday) so quick trip there straight in past 3 to 4 waiting..quick look bandage and sedative... off to Gympie for surgery(30 to 40 min drive depending on traffic)

Vet phoned ahead to say I was coming and what was done....into vet at Gympie 5min wait straight in for surgery.

Now the hard part he is in Gympie I'm at home and me and his girlfriend are missing him.

Just hope he's warm enough as he loves to lie next to the heater(oil column)

Hope it turns out well! I have a great respect for our local animal hospital. We took Tyson our dog there when he got hit by a car a few months back and they looked after him so well! Good luck mate.

Its a shame when your mate/pet has to suffer pain. Lets hope he's fine !

My cat will be going to the vet tomorrow. Theres a strong chance he won't be coming home again. His back leg is practically useless, it does nothing, just slides along with him and he wobbles but keeps walking as if nothing is wrong what so ever. He's practically walking on 3 legs with extra weight there to try and hold him back, but he's a fighter. We have no idea whats wrong and fear the worst, like it may be a tumor or something and he will have to be put down.

He's 12-13 years old by the way. Always been affectionate to anyone and everyone and is the only cat I have ever known that would never really scratch anyone.

cheers and good luck, I hope my cat receives some good luck too

Good luck to you and your cat to. I lost a Burmese to a fox 3 years ago, still think of him. Used to bring me rabbits while I was working on the truck. They realy become part of the family dont they? Let us know how it goes.

John, your mate should get through this. I'm crossing my fingers for him, but he should get through the night.

I had to do that with my red heeler same age (16) in Jan 05....

It really sucks when your pets (who are family) get sick or hurt..

MO: Hope he is home asap and back in front of his heater with his girl and you his mate.

Well as I said update tonight.....he's home and almost wagged his tail off when we picked him up...was so anxious to get out of vets he nosed open the consult room door while we were being given the details of what to do post op.

We didn't find out how many stitches he got but we think about 8 to 12.

Anyway got him home his girlfriend all over him like a rash...we're happy their happy.

Its so hard to see him hobbling around on three legs.
So now I'll try and post a pic.

Once again thanks to all who sent their best wish's to all who posted of a lost mate my condolences...when your an animal lover it hurts.

Now to the hard part of my prob how do you keep a gun dog quiet for five days?

MN there is so much tlc I'm drowning he's had cheese and bikkys being pampered from here to sunset and beyond....I think he's found a sucker and is playing for all its worth.

Mind you his gf pulls him into gear now and again.

If I've left anything out and someone needs a question answered please ask and I shall try to answer.

Good to hear that he is home and settled now.. I see he is back near his fav object :

The only way to keep him restricted with movement is to restrict his space...
He isn't going to like it much but it will help him heal so much better..

Im sure he is going to be just fine now he's home. Not too much cheese now MO :P

Definatly confined to a smaller room will be the optimum .... they dont like it but somehow know its best for them ....... especially when theres a loving master to tend his every need :P

Glad to hear he's Ok but some advice. Do NOT move into a house with central heating. As there is no heater as such to lie in front of, said dog will wander around looking lost for days (or weeks.) Untill it works out that the heat is coming up from the floor in every room, dog will now lie On TOP of floor vent thereby stopping any heat getting into that room.

So, we now have a warm house and a warm dog but a cold room where ever I am !
