I want to use my ED in my license test but one things worrying me.
The pamphlet says the handbrake must be located in a safe spot. My ED has an umbrella handbrake. Can I use it in the test?

I would say that safe spot means the instructor can yank it on in an emergency, so i would lean towards no, but thats just a guess.

as long as it is roadworthy car.. you shouldn't have a problem.. but if I was you I would use an instructors car because it'll probably put some stress on your instructor & tester because they're not 'in control' .. ie; they're not able to use the peddles because there is none..
 not sure in ford, but an old model holden had the hand brake to the right of the drivers seat (in between drivers door & driver seat) |

theres only one condition for all private cars used in licence tests
"Must have a center pull handbrake lever" this was stated to me on 2 seperate occasions by seperate vic roads testers. they let me slide in my ea cos i was nice to the lady. hehe they let my sister slide cos she looked like she was gonna ball if they said no...dont blame her the test is damn stressful. brad

i did my test in my XE, which has the umbrella handbrake and there were no issues. the instructor didnt even mention it. :S

I had my ED used for a license test in NSW without any hassles. Your mileage might vary.
I'd agree about going in an instructors car though - better impression. Just have a lesson or two in that car first. |

Hey when i went to go for my p's i was going to go in my parents Ea, and me and the vicroads guuy went got into the car and he said im sorry i cant take u, and i was like i havent even started the car yet so i cant of done nothing wrong... and he said to me that i couldnt go in it becoz the handbreak neeeded to be in the middlle like commodores.... i was soo shocked.... has anyone had the trobbille or have u gone in ya ea eb ed cars with no probs??

Don't worry about that too much mate, drive the car you are most comfortable with. I wouldn't suggest the ED if you think there is a possibility that you won't be able to use it, as it might mean you have to re-book the test and pay again or something.

yeah i agree with andrewts.
do it in which ever car you are used to and are most comfortable in. the last thing you want is not knowing where windscreen wipers are when asked. the less you have to worry about on the day the better. take your time when doing the test and most of all abey every road rule keep the speed about 5km under the limit ( i was given thumbs up for doing it) and youll be fine. good luck with the test brad

I know the ED the best and cant stand my instructors camry because the brakes are touchy.
I'll see what I can do. Hopefully I dont bloody fail this time

When i was going for my license, i was going to use my EA for the test, i was contemplating a driving school, or my own car, but i wasnt aloud to, because of the handbrake location.
