Default Gold Coast trip - help!!

Doing the 2000km trek up to the Gold Coast in a couple of weeks with the whole tribe. We are going to all 5 theme parks as well as a day up at Australia Zoo.
What 'blokey' stuff is there in the area that I can do? I was thinking of going to the DJR workshop for a look. Anything else worthwhile?

about 10min north of aussie zoo is the 'big kart track'. the karts aren't that quick though and its a lottery as to how good your kart is.

i think there's a couple of jetboat tours along the coast from the gold coast but they aren't that cheap.

whenever we go up we tend to spend a reasonable amount on decent luxury accommodation and then just laze around for a week or two.

I knew someone would mention a joint like Players!

Looking for something more petrol head oriented.
The karts sound good, kids will probably kick my butt on the track.

Got somewhere to dump the kids for a night, the Aussie Outback Spectacular is pretty good. http://outbackspectacular.myfun.com....back-Venue.htm

You will be pretty worn out if you are going to all 5 parks. Good luck have a great time.

well if your into petrol head kinda stuff, go on a jet ski safari. Theyre quite expensive, i suggest the one hour tour which is about $180-230 i think, but well worth it. Most fun ive had up there (including theme parks etc.) Theres a jet ski place that just goes around some bouys, but if you go the jet ski safari, you follow a tour guide, but you can go as fast or as slow as you want ( their jetskis get up to about 90-100) and do fishys etc, its alot more fun than it sounds just following someone. Jetboating is fun, but its not too long, and its the kind of thing you do once, you think "yeah that was ok, but i wont do it again" especially if you have been jetskiing. depending on how old your young ones are i suggest you all go to infinity, great for kids 4 and up, and if your like me and your a bit older but still have a bit of kid in you, youll have fun too. Its a maze kind of thing, and every room has something different, theres a room where the whole floor is like a trampoline, all kinds of weird things like that. i also recommend draculas - its a restaurant and show kind of thing, but all the waiters are dressed up, blood coming out their mouth etc, and their kind of service is: "what do you want to eat you moron" and they carry around baseball bats etc and slam them on tables when people are busy talking, scares the crap out of some people. try this site out for more ideas: http://www.hellogoldcoast.com.au/attractions.html

Jeez, I'd better stay for a month!
Reckon I will give the karts a go up near Australia Zoo.
I dont think the DJR or SBR tours would be any good, I will be up there a week each side of the Phillip Island round and Im thinking they would be empty.

If you are on the Gold Coast and are heading up to Aussie Zoo, allow a good hour and a half travelling time each way.

Depending what time he leaves... add more.

If you are heading this way, watch the roadworks at Caboolture on the
Bruce Highway. Time it wrong and add an extra half hour plus to your travel time.

Big Kart Track is good, first time I went there I spent the first two laps getting used to the kart and ended up flat footing it the whole way round. And the lottery mentioned is so true... I got a dud one time... no fun. :(

WOW ...that place has gone ahead. i used to live just near there when i first moved to qld, in `96 , it was just a bit of a tar track in a dirt padock with a tin shed. looked pretty average then. looks like a pretty flash set up now.

There's also Le Man's Kart track at Pimpama (a few k's up the road from Dreamworld)
http://www.lemanskartracing.com/

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the the V8 SuperSchool at the Holden Performance Driving Centre at Norwell.
You can go for a few hotlaps in a V8 Supercar or even drive a V8 race car around their track and you can choose between a FORD or Holden to go for a run in. (So it's not all Holden/bad ;) ) They have different packages. I've put the link for the site below.

For a good cheap feed try the Surfers Paradise RSL Club. It is opposite the bus station Level 1, 9 Beach Rd,
Surfers Paradise Qld 4217 (opp. GC Bus Centre)

http://www.surfersrsl.com.au/index.ews

Open daily for lunch from 12pm - 2.30pm with meals starting at just $7.90. Dinner is from 5.30pm - 8.30pm with an array of daily specials.

We found it was just as cheap to eat there most nights as it was to cook in our apartment. The meals were big and very tasty, with a good variety and great stuff for the little kids. Very clean and professional.

Another good activity that is fun for everyone was putt putt golf - there are a couple of fun ones on the coast. ebay quite often have vouchers for them (do not buy your theme park tickets on ebay though, as they are usually only valid for QLd residents).

Have fun.

At the same place as the WRX experience (which is just down the road from V8 Supercar School) is BUGGY MANIA . Great fun as long as you don't mind getting dirty.

Don't bother with the Jetboats. sleep:

As for other blokey stuff...

Mini Golf then Hooters?!
They are next door to each other. How much more convenient could you get?! :
(yay for street view!)
