Default Nick Xenophon to start a political party?

Just heard on Ch10 News that Nick plans to start a political party.

SWMBO commented that Australian Xenophobics might be a good name???

Cheers

I agree.

If we had a majority of politicians like NX we would be in much better shape.

Gee, I wonder if I can be granted a wish.

Make it a penalty of 3 years in jail, without the alternative of a fine, to sit in any parliament in Australia whilst concurrently being a member of a political party.

We might then get some proper constituent representation.

I can dream.

I would like to meet a person who is less likely to be Xenophobic than Nick.

Cheers

Yay, another minor political party to be a spanner in the works for a legitimately elected government...

I think its a good thing because the big boys have to negotiate with the little guy, so they just cant force legislation through.

We live in politically interesting times

I'm also not sure where you're heading with that.

Well I have a different slant on that. I think is should be illegal to drop out of the party you are elected to. Sure by all means stand run and win as an independent. But don't get elected as a PUP, or ALP or LNP then have a spat, or do something wrong andthen resign form the party and continue on potentially not representing the people who elected you.

Go to a by election and get your change of position ratified by the voters.

All fine and dandy, except you end up with a squillion little guys pushing their own absurd agenda, not giving a stuff about the "real" issues and holding the government to ransom!

How about we go to a direct democracy then, where we ourselves vote on issues (and ALL of them) rather than have "representatives" do our bidding for us?

Quote:
Direct democracy (also known as pure democracy)[1] is a form of democracy in which people decide (e.g. vote on, form consensus on) policy initiatives directly.
