So what do we think of this whole GameStop situation going on?

We all know that a lot of people take a dim view of shorts but these funds know that it is risky to take these positions because the loss is technically infinite.

Since a huge amount of individual traders have got together to put it to them, it has now become a story whereas I doubt we'd hear about it in the mainstream had another fund done the same thing

I say ead to all the hedge funds that lost money. The pricks are crying poor because ordinary people used their tactics against them.

That is my view too. The funds use their huge amount of capital to bend the markets all the time.

As soon as a collective forms to counter it, then there's whinging about the ethics of it

Just saw pre-market GME at $420. They can’t stop the hold.

The Reddit guys took an opportunity to squeeze the life out of a hedge fund that was taking an opportunity to squeeze the life out of a stock. Now the financial establishment is engaging in special pleading.

FMD 140% of stocks were shorted, any stock with that sort of short interest deserves a looksee.

Losses of 14.3 billion just yesterday for the shorters, excluding any other losses I think.

On the good side, from the original thread there is a long time investor who has been bullish the stock the whole way. Initial investment of 50k and been reinvesting, yesterday his stock was worth 40 mill, good luck to him.

I hope he was able to close that, set them and all the family they didn't know existed for a couple of life times .

Part of the controversy was an app putting in trading halt due to market volatility, freezing out the little guy while the big wigs just keep doing what they do every day on their platforms.

Any APT holders? Peaked on 10th February near $160, closed at $119 on Friday. Some speculators still think its $100 overvalued. APT is a $34B promisory note.

Reserve banks are throwing everything including the kitchen sink to try and keep inflation under control. Hope they're able to otherwise the housing sector is doomed.

Yep.

Keep in mind at $119 it's still 3x it's pre-covid levels (it dropped to a low of $9 briefly when all stocks collapsed in late march 2020). Lot's of people want it written off, but I think it'll ultimately be a $250+ share. APT's global expansion is only just beginning.

Nudging this thread, post-Afterpay announcement. Five months on; almost half a year and it feels like we’re simply treading water. In denial about spending, all parties unwilling to gently throttle housing…

The team at Square definitely gave APT the little boost it needed. It closed at $97 on Friday, Today it's $127... Easy money for some

Telstra is less of a terd today, ive been bag holding for 4 years, am finally breaking even... time to flick it off soon.

Must go read why it went up, saw theyre doing a share buy back and an (expected) 8c dividend, didnt delve into the deets yet.

The easiest you could do(In My opinion) would be to Salary sacrifice into your Super. Will be Tax effective as you're only Taxed on the Post Sacrifice amount..

I need the cash flow though. I can put it in my mortgage and get it out if I want to.

I should note that there are carry forward unused concessional cap contributions. Definitely take advantage if you can.

Dont buy index funds LOL. Yes, the last 6 months have been pretty crap, but that was bound to happen sooner or later, but overall since I started (Nov 20) I'm up 20% which is better than the dismal 1% the banks were offering. I dont have the level of interest to pick shares. I'm just dropping in $5k every few months and will for the next 10 years, and if there's enough to carry me through to 65yo, then I'll retire.

Agree.

So update on some of my portfolio since my last posts here. Some have come back down price wise, some are now even losing me money, certain few have exploded, and I've sold a handful for some profit taking.

4DS: 3.1c to 4.8c to 9.9c to 8.7c
BCT: 6.0c to 4.5c to 5.8c to 4.6c
BLG: 3.2c to 8.4c to 9.2c to 3.4c
BRN: 4.0c to 27.0c to 35.5c to frkn $1.735! Yes, >4000% growth!!
CM8: 1.5c to 2.4c to 6.4c to 4.1c
LNU: 1.0c to 2.6c to 2.9c to 1.8c
MEB: 0.6c to 1.2c down to 1.1c to 0.4c
SP3: 5.5c to 6.0c back to 5.5c to 6.1c
DW8: 0.7c to 3.3c to 4.8c to 4.2c, after briefly peaking at 20c
APT: $17.26 to $78.95 to $101.85 sold my shares at $130 before it dropped to $67 after being acquired by SQ2
SUL: $3.96 to $10.51 back to $10.11 to $12.14, please keep shopping at Supercheap!
PPH: $3.11 to $7.86 back to $7.07 to $1.015 after a 4:1 split
CCP: $9.14 to $19.12 to $22.49 to $31.93
M7T: 46.0c to 95.7c to $1.13 to 77c

Also notable:

WBT: 23.9c to $3.65
ONE: 4.7c to 26c
NOV: 12c to 29c
CTD: $7.99 to $20.58
MVF: 43c to $1.06

Sold my MQG shares, bought at $83.66 during Covid, sold at $196.54
Bought YFZ at 49.2c and sold 2 months later at 90.5c after a takeover announcement.

All up an 83.7% appreciation in my investment in <24 months, and have cashed in a $9k profit. Which of my shares will be the next Intel is my question! BRN has great potential, WBT and DW8 will also do well.

I dumped a wad against BHP last week. I think there's a fair bit of capital appreciation upside with the dual listing ending and some super-tasty franking credits available.

I grabbed Wooside before the announcement and its up 35% currently so its offsetting some others.

I tried an EFT ACDC, which was going well but has dropped off a bit. I haven't got the time or patience to be day trading so just looking for dividends. Same story with Wesfarmers which is a bit disappointing.

Ill have to crank up a spreadsheet at some point to keep track of it.

RIO is doing OK so was thinking of putting some in another miner but may look at a different one instead of BHP.

Ive been told Whitehaven is not a bad option but I know how they operated Mauls and Narribri and stuffed if I know how they are making money..LOL
