I've just gone back to delivering pizzas again and i am just curious if people here tip the pizza boy?

p.s. saying keep the change when it is 5c is not a tip

I usually get the $21.95 special and give them $30.

For the money they make, they deserve to be tipped.

Yeah

Use to be a pizza boy when I was in high school... got something like $3 a delivery - NO hourly rate etc like they have in most places now..

So i'd get stuck working a Tuesday night for nearly 3 hours and probably make $6 - $9. (and no fuel allowance or anything on top of that!)

So these days I try to think of what I had to go through and usually give em $5-$10... (although they get much better rates these days)

NOTE: as a rule I am very against tipping as this is Australia not the US. But I remember some nights, when I was getting shafted on my wage, a few tips could actually double what I took home. I remember how much I appreciated it - so that's why I do it now. But - as a rule, I don't tip :ymca:

If your a good tipper, youd be surprised how much sooner you'll get your order ;)
Fact is they'll remember a good tipper (and I mean ~$5) and will opt to take that order before some scumbag who doesnt give anything, doesnt turn the light on, door bell doesnt work, take ages to come to the door, takes ages to get the money etc.

The money my mate makes delivering pizzas he left his other job. Based on that i don't usualy tip delivery people. Neither do i feel it is appropriate/nesssacary to tip hospitality workers. Their wages are so damn high compared to other jobs that entail similar effort that i never feel obliged to tip. If you don't like the job because of its pay and you start to expect tips. Leave, get another job.

Where does he work? I did it for years as a second job and earn't sweet f all.

I did remember the regulars and good tippers and yes they get better service. The chains computer systems come up with all sorts of details on you!

On average I reckon $10-$20 in tips a night on the weekend was about average for me.

DYN: copper wire was invented by dropping a penny between two Scotsmen.

Does the pizza joint in Worrigee St still charge you extra for pineapple because its exotic, they did when I was a lad!! _2:

I'll tip if the pizza arrives before the time limit set by the person on the phone. So far it never has.

Hrmm, did you read my above post? When I use to deliver pizza's - I got $3 a delivery - no hourly rate, no fuel money - nothing! So if I worked a slow night (i.e. Tuesdays - which I always did) i could make around $6 for 3 hours work! Fair enough they have it better these days - but I'd hardly consider their wages to be 'so damn high' (no offence to pizza delivery guys) ... :eclipsee_ Then again, if I hadn't worked as one, I probably wouldn't tip them either.

I just know the stuff I had to go through (for much less money than they make these days) - i.e. no light left on, crazy dogs, rude customers, rain, and people who compalin because their pizza was 5 mins late on state of origin night :togo: errhhh....

as they said on the above post - if you do tip ( > $5) you'll always get you pizza quicker and with better service - the delivery drivers will remember you...

I tip, usually if I spend $20 or something I will tip anywhere between $3 and $5 depending on what I have and how the delivery person comes across

When I was delivering pizza, as my only job, cause I live in a town with no employment, I was earning 8.95 per hour plus 1 dollar per delivery fuel allowance. Driving my EF falcon, I used more than 1 dollar per delivery. I would never deliver out of order, I wouldn't deliver to tippers before non-tippers. I would be a lot nicer to tippers. I wasn't too concerned about non-tippers, yet very appreciative of tippers. I was annoyed though about people who very angrily demand their 5 cents change back. As a result, I ama big fan of tipping, anyone who sells me food and does it in a way that I feel deserving. Whether it be eating at a restaurant where I spend 100 bucks or getting pizza delivered, I like to tip. Generally about 5 bucks, whatever I have. Main reason, is not because they don't earn enough, but because it is nice and makes their night a whole lot better.
