We're meant to be traveling to Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium and England in May for 5 weeks, do you think we're just a little stressed?! Lol! Our only hope of getting any refund/money back now is that the government goes to a 'Level 4' 'Do Not Travel' warning and Emirates start cancelling flights to Europe from Australia. We booked and paid for it at the end of November last year.

I'm happy to still go, but I just don't want to get to these countries and then we can't go out and do anything or we get stuck in one country.

Check your insurance... It's been declared a pandemic so all bets may be off.

A couple of years ago I had to cancel a cruise due to the zika virus (Mrs was pregnant) and travel insurance wouldn't cover it. There was a clause saying they didn't cover epidemics or pandemics, whether officially declared or not.

Yep, have already done that and when it's been declared a pandemic or epidemic by the WHO (World Health Organisation), then travel insurance won't cover anything, which is why I'm hoping the Australian government goes to a 'Level 4' 'Do Not Travel' and flights are cancelled into Europe, then most major airlines will then refund the money on the flights, so at least that will be something.

Did you book direct through an airline?
Check your conditions of airfare. Some of them will have a small cancellation fee, or free cancellations regardless. The cheapest fares will have no changes or cancellations.

Click on the US, 37 dead Vs 8 recovered.

I hope I'm interpreting it wrongly.
2100+ have it in the US with 47 deaths. How is that 75%?

Case Fatality Rates vary from country to country. 3-6% is often quoted. However, in Italy currently:

17,600 cases
1,233 dead
1,328 critical (unfortunately most of these cases will be fatal)
CFR = 15%

Thats because the only thing they should be trusted with managing is an Italian restaurant, someone else should be responsible for governing their country

Italians couldn't organise a root in a brothel, since the end of WWII they've had 61 different governments in 75-odd years. The first step was they tried to ban family visits to prisons to keep it out of their prison system and 20+ prisons went on riots killing 6 people and there were fights between their family and the prison security.

Not only that but Italians and those of us with the heritage greet the opposite sex by doing the kiss on both cheeks so there is a lot of close contact between strangers.

I would suggest that is not quite right either

I would look at resolved cases where an outcome has been determined - so recovered or otherwise

At the moment that would make it closer to 45%

China (wuhan) is sitting at 5%

I'm calling BS on China's figures, as if they'd be reporting correctly.

Also keeping in mind that China also has the ability to control its citizens to a much higher degree than any Western democracy.

Data from:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

As for Italy, and the gereralisations of Italy being made my Franco - whilst they might appeal and raise a smile are utter garbage. The Northern part of Italy is very modern, wealthy and with a very good health system - it is being overwhelmed. I have relatives who live adjacent to Northern Italy and it is grim over there.

Unless you have been overseas or been in direct contact with a confirmed case they won't test you for the most part.

The numbers are way higher I would suggest because of the limited amount of kits so they can't just test everybody.

Stay at home if you are sick is the advice which should be a given anytime but especially now. Flatten the curve as they have been saying.

I've never really been bothered about getting a flu shot but this year I will probably get through work (assuming vaccine supply even hold up) because at the very least it is one less thing to overwhelm the hospitals.

I last had it in 2016 I think and not really worried but in these times we don't want to make more problems.

I think you can get both so even if you beat one you might not beat the other.

Agree with all of the above - hard to estimate numbers but many of those with none or little to mild symptoms wont be getting tested and included, and as per franco many you wouldn't trust and many without the ability to record properly

I'm not a 'sickly' person, but I got my first flu shot when I turned 40 two years ago and I'll now be getting another every season from now on. Every little bit helps.

Neither. I've only had it twice as far as I know and it knocks you around for sure. I just stay at home and wait it out but you have to get a certificate after 3 days and a flu is a week at best.

So that is another conundrum because they really don't want people flooding to doctors for seasonal flu and colds, I'd imagine the pharmacists too.

Maybe that is where the new tele-health MBS item might help a bit.

"Oh that is no look good. You no go to work"

The Australia data correlates very closely to the data from our government, almost accurate to the hour. If you can find a better source of data please share.

Heard an interesting story from a mate on Friday. A medical centre in Sydney’s CBD had opened an overflow clinic to deal with the spike of drop-ins.

They’d chosen to do this in an adjacent building, under a sublet. No approval from the strata committee, no council approval, the commercial suites shared a lobby with the residential units above. Unsurprisingly, when this was all fleshed out there were a number of unhappy campers! It’s hard to work out which is more offensive - the gall or the greed of this clinic.

It took most of a day to both ensure that adequate information was captured to facilitate prosecution, and to physically get it permanently closed, then send out notification to all parties potentially affected. My mate reflected on the hoo-haa: “I was hoping for a quiet day, to wind up a few things before my annual leave”...

There’s definitely not much “normal” happening in some places at the moment!

That was also reported on 2gb last week.

Emergency centres may need to be set up but not in that fashion.

Yes, it was important to notify people widely! Also as a warning shot across the bow.

That means crown in Latin. A king of sorts being taken down by the enemies crown.
