Check throttle body. 220kw had tickford wings engraved on the trottle body where as 200kw didn't.

So many off the 220kw add on's could have been added by prevoius owner/s, your best bet would be to ring Ford with the vin and get the correct info.

Damn there also was a series run of EL falcon XR8's with an ELGT kit with the same engine hardware, but the interior was remarkably better ie leather embossed seats etc.

as said above, SVO is an aftermarket operation - they have no links/ties with Ford at all. If you wanted to find out what they did to the car you would need to call them, theyre in Melbourne (somewhere). Mick Webb's SVO is the full name of the company.

Your best bet to tell if its an AU 220 or not is to ring Ford with the VIN number - 13FORD is the phone number. Throttle bodies etc can all be changed.

most good workshops that do mods on cars keep a record of what is done, especially if its big dollar gear. i say 'most' because i can think of one rather well known workshop that conveniently has no records of what was done to certain cars. very helpful.

G'day there. I have a factory signature engine AU11 XR8 ute Built NOV 01 and Im original owner (and this throttle body with the wings is driving me crazy.. I have a 70mm throttle body (measured it), however it does not have wings engraved on it. Thanks to this forum I called ford and gave my vin and they said I have a SEFI V8 High power 220 KW engine with a M 95 LE trans. My ute is fully optioned AU111 as they did not have AU11 stock left. Adrien Brien Ford in Adelaide asked me at the time whether I was ok with this, otherwise I would have to wait until February 02... I said bring it on as Chrysler used to do the same thing in the 70's when out of stock. I have never got a satisfactory answer and the majority of people think Im dreaming... But where is these wings... coz I cannot see them yet it is a 70mm throttle body.... Thanks for your time

their on the very top of the t/b facing straight up.

did the 200's gt the bigger t/b but without wings? cos im sure all S2/3 utes came with 200's except for the pursuit..... you may have a rare beast if it is a 220!

Ok thats a fair opinion that FORD are telling me stories and Mechanics must be backyarders. Can anyone tell me if the 200 KW came out with a signature engine in the utes with a 70mm throttle body (the car is factory original Tickford) Also the code of the engine on the ID plate has a Z code. Now the wreckers get a updated book every year of what each make of car came out with, The AU11 ute says the engine code on the ID plate should have an X code, Do all XR8 AU1 11 or 111 utes have the Z code on ID plate ?? I have seen an XR8 AU111 SEDAN with a Z coded ID plate and that in the wreckers manual means its a 220 KW engine... I was also advised before I recieved my car by the dealer principle at Adrien Brien Ford that my ute was getting a 220KW engine, Does or can anyone advise me of a FORD expert in Adelaide that would have the time to have a look for himself, Coz I need this settled as i get contradicting information... Thanks for your help and time anyway.

Hey mate, I just bought an AUII 8/01 XR8 Ute. (With signature on rocker cover) - All 200kw/220kw engines had the signature built engines.

It has engine code Z. It does not have the Tickford Wings on the Throttle body, (are you sure your measuring it right? measure the side that the air comes in)

It also has Yella Terra 1.7's on it, that the Series 3 got on them. So either Ford fitted them at factory, or during a warranty claim of some sort, or the previous owner did.

Ok, just called 13FORD, 220kw WAS an option during the later months of the AUII Ute.
(according to the person i spoke to...)

Sadly, mine is not one of them! So the Yella Terra roller rockers i found were either fitted for a warranty claim, or by the previous owner.

P.S Sorry to take over your thread NEILLY

If the T/B does not have Tickford Wings it is not a 70mm. You need to measure behind the butterfly to get the correct measurement. No good measuring at the front as it has a bellmouth.

If it doesnt have the Tickford T/B it would only be a 200kw engine, as the bigger T/B is obviously a contributor into the extra 20kw.

I love these forums... Even after the owner states the dealer principal at ford had a 220 kw engine put in the ute obviously some people on here must no more about every single falcon ever produced by ford then Ford themselves know. There is every chance your ute DOES have a 220 kw engine in it as IF the dealer principal at FORD ordered the ute and was willing to wait the time for delivery FORD could have put it the ute. But hey maybe FORD has no idea what cars they built and what they put in them.

I have had this argument so many times it's not worth repeating. Just explain to me one thing - if Ford did put the 220's into utes, why did they never advertise it, and why is the advertised power in them always no more than 200kw? The only place that the 220 has ever shown up in utes is in Ford's CRC when people ring to try and work it out.

Engine code Z indicates a 5.0 V8 SEFI. There is only one code to indicate a V8 in the AUs, and it is Z. This would be the same for AU1 through to AU3 and does not indicate 185, 200, 220 or 250 power; it simply indicates V8. It is the same for EB through to FG also, with the only models to get a different option code of J or T being an EB, ED and EL V8 (I'm guessing these were fitted to the GTs in the case of the J designation, and the Sprint in the case of the T).

Engine Code of X is for the 4.0 I6 (HP), and has never been used by Ford to indicate a V8.

The answers have been here the whole time; why do people not use the resources of this site properly?

Hey give me a break, I havent owned the ute long and i was 100% certain it was 200kw just as I had read on these forums.
However after finding the Y/T rollers on it, i became more interested so started reading up, then found this thread and thought, 'Why not, i might call ford and find out'.

I pretty much read every single thread on here regarding this topic and wasnt posting to make trouble, I found it an interesting topic. :S

I should clarify that I am not bagging anyone for calling Ford to find out - I blame Ford for supplying incorrect information. It's totally understandable that if you buy a car and you're not sure what it is you want to know, but I am still certain of the fact that 220's were never put into utes. If it can be proven they were I will most certainly eat my words but every piece of info I have ever seen suggests that they weren't.
