Default Unregistered Vehicle Permits (UVP).. Anyone use them?

Has anyone used an unregistered vehicle permit to move an unregistered car before?
I'm thinking of using one to get a car from Sydney to the mid north coast, but I'm worried I'll get pulled up on the pacific highway multiple times and they'll try find something to defect me with.

You cant be defected with the permit.
The permit is designed essentially to allow you to move an unregistered car around to make repairs and get a RWC/Rego. (or for a new owner to move the vehicle from the sellers premises to their own).
I have used many permits in my time and have not had a single issue from it.
We drove a VT from Tullamarine to Warrnambool (300km) and didnt get stopped once, even though we were still on the road after 7pm.

I have been stopped before in other cars that i was driving on the permit so i could get repairs.
A simple license check, and a look at the permit and i was on my way.

You may get pulled over but as long as you obey the conditions on the permit, you will be fine.

As long as the car is being used in terms of the permit then the driver can be licenced either fully or Ps or Ls - as long as all other relevant laws are being complied with.

I have also moved vehicles interstate on permits and never had a problem. One time I drove from Adelaide to Sydney over a two day stretch (no number plates on car) and passed numerous police cars - not even a second glance. However I wouldn't like to bring attention to myself by speeding or anything whilst on a permit - it might get viewed rather harshly.

Ok thanks guys. Yeah I don't plan on speeding/doing anything illegal, and I'll be doing the permit all legit. I've already rang and asked about it, I am on my P's (that was one of my questions). Was just worried if I got pulled over multiple times, chances are one of them would sting me for a sports exhaust or something like that. I even have a third party property damage cover notice prepared for when I'll be driving the car.

Also to save making a new thread.. The car was a repairable write off after hitting a curb and buckling a wheel which set off the passenger airbag (they thing it was faulty to go off). Is all I need to get the UVP then in future, registration, a blue slip and a statuary declaration of safety proving replacement of airbag.

I think you will find nsw permits only allow you to go to the nearest practical inspection station or repairer, check with the RTA to make sure of your plans.

I just checked online RTA ,the vehicle has to be road worthy, and you have to provide a inspection certificate before they will issue the permit.

I prefer to use a car float .
insurance could get messy if you have an issue in an unregoed car .

I'd check before hand

It isn't "unregoed". By definition, if you have a permit then it has (temporary) registration including CTP. And if you have comprehensive or 3rd party cover note/insurance it is also valid.

when getting cover note say you want conversation taped and that you are using a permit no plates on car atm, did this when we bought a car from auctions.

That is exactly what I'm doing. The UVP includes CTP for however long the UVP is for, and I've already rang up and have a cover note for TPPD with AAMI for a 2 week period when I will be picking up the car.

Yep, had no drama's taking the ute to get an exhaust put on: big block + straight out extractors on a freeway = much fun.

Good idea to have your own insurance regardless and just do it all by the book and you'll be fine.

Yeah I'm even getting roadside assistance just in-case .

Does anyone have an answer to my other question? Is all I need to re-register or get a UVP on a repairable write off (as the airbag+wheels caused a repairable write off in mid 2009 but have been repaired), a blue slip and a statuary declaration of repairs done?

to get a UVP in NSW you are required for the vehicle to pass a blue slip, which in actual fact is the victorian equivilent of a RWC. there fore if ya had time before hand you could nearly register the vehicle to drive home. How-ever, if the vehicle was a repairable write off i ould be checking with RTA first due to new laws or something involving written of vehicles (there was a thread in the bar or pub earlier about this) afaik the vehicle will require a seperate check before registration to confirm that it is not been rebirthed or such. Which from memory when i priced it was about $400.

All in all my advice is just make sure you have every detail of the vehicle and ensure you check it very well with the RTA. They will be able to tell you everything you should need.

The only problem i've had while driving on a UVP was the petrol station wouldn't sell me any fuel because i didn't have any plates on the car. (i complained and moaned and eventually sold me $20 worth)

I had the same happen to me at the servo with no plates but i gave them my license till i payed. About 15 yrs ago i got an unregistered fine when i had a permit for driving 10mins outside business hours but i was a little smart to the officer (my fault). I think it's at there discretion a little?

On the Unregistered Vehicle Permit form it's got a spot for a signature and stamp from a dealer for roadworthy.. What if I don't get that done and just get a pink slip? Especially seeing as most pink slips are all electronic now.

You still need an inspection and if its been out of rego for a while you will need a blue slip for that it will have to be put over the pits. If that is the case you may as well just pay the rego ,since you have paid for the inspection.

Or pay for it to be delivered by a car carrier (plenty in the phone book) my guess is it would be approx. $300 from Sydney I get cars shipped from Brisbane Auctions to Clarence Valley at trade for $220.

Got it yesterday.. Everything went ok. UVP was $25 for 2 days (and included CTP). All I needed was a pink slip (even though it had been out of registration), and my license. It had to be an old pink slip though, not an electronic one.
Didn't get pulled up once on the way home, got a lot of looks from people in other cars though :P

i did the same thing last weekend. flew to sydney, bought car from dealer who then took me to RTA at five dock. he has a mechanic mate accross the road who filled out a pink slip and then i wandered accross and got the permit. apparently you can only get a permit for the length of time it will take to travel back to where you are going. the bloke gave me a weird look when i said i needed 7 days to get back to adelaide.

When I entered the XF into a car show all I had to do was sign an owner declaration to basically say it was safe. I didnt have to get a pink slip done
