Default "Restrepo" documentary

So it's based on the book WAR by Sebastian Junger which was an excellent book. It was the first military book i have ever read where the civilian truly seemed to understand what a soldier goes through during war. So with this book came the documentary, basically it followed a US platoon in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan for there 15 month deployment. i thought they would ruin the documentary but they did so well. Got right into the soldiers heads and showed the full raw emotion of what its like to be at war during the good times and the bad. It's not really about Afghanistan so much, more about what its like to be in conflict. If you are thinking of watching it don't watch the version that is going to be on the discovery channel, it has been cut heaps and is only rated MA. the full doco is rated R. has anyone else seen this Doco? what are your thoughts?

The Pacific by Hugh Ambrose was a bit like that, it was the book that the series was based on. It told the story but also explained what it was all like

Stanley Kubric's Full Metal Jacket was also similar, not much of a storyline, but the slow course of a particular soldier going mad during war.

The storyline and characters portrayed in The Pacific were based on With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for my Pillow by Robert Leckie, both characters of which were in the mini series. I'm reading With the Old Breed right now, it's an awesome read. I'd thoroughly recommend it.

this is absolutely nothing like the pacific. everything is real life both in the docco and in the book. its is all totally raw and in your face with full footage that sebastion got while on tour with the platoon.
