Default Super Noob Question

Hey guys,

Are all 2L engine's out of escort/cortina pinto's?

If not how do identify a pinto engine?

Just about. You can see the pinto engine is an OHC engine, it has a pressed tin cover over the drive belt/cog at the front that is quite distinctive and is a lot taller than the alternate non-ohc crossflow Kent engine.

I think 'Pinto' is American terminology that's been accepted world-wide.
Here in Oz, they were fitted to Escorts & Cortinas.
In the UK, they were fitted to Escorts, Granadas & I guess quite a few others.

It's an injected 205 2ltr, but they are all the same externally.

Were 205 blocks in any cars in Aus or only in the UK?

They were only fitted to UK cars, very strong blocks & cranks. There's a place in Brissy that imports them.
The pic of my nephew's engine was from a feature article in Hot 4's. It's a pretty nice Escort.

They are called Pintos as they were originally designed for the US Ford Pinto. This car was short lived because they kept catching on fire because of a common electrical fault. The 205 block was used in the sierras injection cars and became the basis for the cossie engines. Has a thicker wall and more suited to turbo applications than the standard block. Its all a much of a muchness as I've found the older TC cortina engines hold up better than the later Escort/TE Cortina ones. You'll find the rings go on the older ones, whereas the bearings let go on the later ones....You take your pick.

the 205 was a four wheel drive block , or the basis of the YB cosworths which were turbo'd
