Hi all, bit of background info first, about 7 years ago i bought a mk2 cortina, unlicensed but complete except for front seats and an air filter. I started stripping the car down but that slowly stopped due to work etc... 7 years later i finally in a position to work on it untill restored.
The engine: 1600 x flow 2737e block. I going to strip it right down and rebuild it, it isnt seized, turns over by hand freely with head off, no obvious marks on cylinder walls and pistons seem snug, they also measure up at stock (81mm). the head show marks of detonation and the valves look pretty shagged. Now the questions... Would i get away with leaving the block as is, no machining and going new pistons/rings and all other bits new. Reconditioning the head completely. Also can a modified cam be used without any head work? cheers |

If you can't feel a lip at the tops the bore chances are, you won't need you bore the engine, so a re ring and hone will be the go.
The cam stage 2 is about the best you cn do on stud compression beyond that you will loose too bottom end power with changing valves size and compression.
