Hi out there. My grandson has a 2006 CL Focus with a harmonic balancer seal leak. From what I have gleaned on the interweb, the replacement needs spacialised tools.
Is this so? No just pull the balancer off, replace the seal, chuck the balancer back on ?? Cheers |

You need a special tool to install the seal utilizing the bolt to press on the seal with the tool. It holds the out edge of the seal open outways if that makes sense.

Yep, I follow. I also believe that the balancer is not keyed to the shaft, so special tools are needed to hold the crank still??

Yes thats true too, how ever if your only changing a seal you may get away with it if you mark everything up and remove balancer in the TDC #1 position. That would be more necessary if you were replacing a belt/chain etc.
