Default Military buffs?

Got many here? I've been into tanks, ships and aircraft since I was a wee tacker. My whole family is like that, my uncle worked on Vampires, my mums dad was a gunner on 25 pdrs, and my dads dad was an engineer.

I had about 60+ 1/72nd scale WW2 aircraft models.. everything from a Dornier D-17Z-2 to a Petlyakov PE-8. Then I got into tanks, got about 15.. Tiger II Ausf B, couple Pzkpfw IV's.. etc.

Says a lot about my social life eh? :hihi:

Cant say that I am a real military buff, but it does interest me. For my sons birthday I bought a radio controlled german tiger tank that has a air gun mounted as the cannon. I shoots little plastic balls. Sure is fun chasing the cat around the house with it. It is about 60 cm long and is quite imposing......

I saw one of the new Abrams ARV's on the back of a transporter going over the Westgate a week or so ago, was being escorted by a 300C V8 police car :

I'm an on and off military buff. Nearly applied for a cadetship with the organisation that supplies all of the 'hardware' to the ADF. Especially interested in rifles (how they work more so than shooting) and aircraft. Got to rank of Cadet Warrant Officer in air force cadets while i was at school which was good fun (was is the operative word here). However, i cringe at some of the hardware choices of the DMO for the ADF. Who the hell decided that the abrams was a good tank...

Leopard 2A6 would have been a better choice for us than the Abrams or the Challenger 2. Especially since we're getting M1A1's that are being rebuilt.... sloppy seconds :jab:

Hi there, I 'm into modelling in a huge way, was my only real vice until I bought my first car, and later the ute. I have quite a collection of unmade kits, mainly military subjects Armour, aircraft figures, 1/35, 1/48/32 & 54mm, but some non-military as well, mainly drag cars. I have been down to Expo several times, and competed, as well as the QMHE here in Queensland. It is a truly creative hobby and can be very satisfying, unfortunately, not enough people seem to know about it, or are interested in it, or do it.

Cheers.

Massive military buff. Joining a service rifle club soon. Got enough bayonets here to scare most people.

I reckon the Abrams was the best choice. Sure, Leopard 2 is a better tank, but at least all the tankies can get a deployment easier now. Although actually having to do some work might be a bit of a culture shock. Spare parts are cheap and the odds of us having to use them en masse are slim.

Although sloppy seconds was a bad move.

Besides, they're the in service Seppo MBT. Less chance of getting shot up by A-10s. Oh hang on....

Damn straight!!!

We could argue about this all day but I'm only gonna give an argument once.

The last thing we need is unreliable tanks. The Abrams has a lot to be desired in this area. They cannot fit on any current ADF aircraft so we need to order new aircraft (Globmasters for memory) to transport them. They are by no means cheap and represent only a small increase in capability over other tanks like the Challenger 2 and Leopard 2.

That's all it boils down to really, they're seppo. I agree totally, the Challenger 2 and Leopard 2 are heaps better tanks. Heaps better than the current Abrams, let alone dodgy hand me downs.

But at the end of the day, if they weren't Abrams we'd never use them. If we end up using them anyway.

I like alot of military stuff. Not as into it as I was when I was younger, but military equipment is a bit of an interest. I'll be the first to admit I know SFA though.

Been into anything military since i was about 5 or 6. got heaps of model tanks and aircraft, and heaps of books and videos aswell. Also enjoy shooting aswell.

the grey tiger, and yellow panther are needing new camo paint jobs and weathering, the plain green sherman sandwiched between the two white ones needs to be weathered, the achillies in the front needs to be finally assembled, and the pershing needs a bit of everything. Still got five more unopened tanks and a few boxes of figures to do for dioramas.

Nice, 2 PzIV's there. Ausf D/E and an Ausf H/J looks like. Is that an IS-2 or an IS-3 in the middle there? I was looking for an IS-2 but only thing I can find is a Tamiya IS-3..

Been into military stuff since I swapped a few model aeroplanes for a German helmet in high school......quite a long time ago.
Still go to Military swap meets.
Now mainly into replica guns, which are still quite legal over here, for the moment.
Check out the "About Me" section on my website for a laugh!

I like Challenger2. M1A1s use a lot of fuel and logistics is a big deal on the battlefield, especialy with armour. I like the 120mm rifeld gun and the chobham armour on Challenger2 is second to none.

Germans lost the last war didnt they, lol.

Many years ago I built the Tamyia 1/25th Tiger 1 as Micheal Wittmans tank. My favorite tank is the Centurion. Had the Tamyia 1/25th Cent as Charlie Squadron First Armoured Regiment.

no mate. i asked my local hobby shop, kellets hobbies in liverpool, if there was a sherman firefly kit in 1:35, but the bloke said that there wasn't at that time, but now Dragon have released one which i have to get around getting. i've got the M4 early production(tamiya) (pic), an M4a1 76(italerie), m4a3 105 (tamiya), m4a3 75 (tamiya), israeli super-sherman (Dragon), m4a3 jumbo (early tamiya), and the tank destroyers M10 and Achillies ( both the academy kits)

its funny cause the firefly is my favourite of all the shermans and its the one i'm missing.
