Hey dude, my family are sort of into martial arts. Mt Wife is a black belt Tai Kwon do (SP?) holder, my 16 years old daughter is also black belt and my 5 year daughter just got her white belt. Myself and my son are not in the slightest bit interested. But I am very proud of all my girls!!!!

You should be proud. Its a great thing to know..especially for girls. My little girl can whip my butt ..shes done the kung fu too. I am itching to go back but got hit last time by a careless moron after my heart attack.Nevertheless I am going back this week. I like to finish what I start.

I reckon you should go too..

I am proud of them. But we keep their ability fairly quiet. You would be amazed how many A holes out there try to prove them selves by whipping a black belts but. Funny, but sad story, about 12 months ago my wife and 16 year old daughter, 15 then, and not quite black belt, were accosted by a drunk itinerant out side of coles after leaving work. He mad ethe mistake of getting between a mother and her daughter. My wifes training kicked in and she took the quickest possible imobilising route and with one kick totally difused the situation. A work mates wife works in emergencey at ASP hospital. We heard that he was brought in for treatment for a split scrotum. Ouch. Nothing else has ever been heard abou the incidence. I think that the police were staisfied that justice had been served.

Cheers all, and dont mess with my girls !! :hihi:

I did years and years of Jeet Kune Do with Kenjutsu & Aikido thrown in from the age of 7, and have combined all to form a personal style which I don't use much anymore but i still remember the moves and have the speed, just not quite the endurance of a younger fellow. You mentioned you had a heart attack mate....what age were you and why did it happen.....your pretty young from what I know.

Cheers.

I gave up karate about 5 years ago, I got my black belt and then sort of lost interest. Not as quick or strong as I once was, but its nice to know there's a few things I could still do in my defence.

I've studied Hung gar Kung Fu, Brazilian Jui Jitsu, boxing, and freestyle wrestling. All have different strengths and weaknesses. I would have to say that the BJJ and freestyle wrestling are the most practical in terms of self defense.

When i was about 13 i did Tae Kwon Do and got up to my yellow belt, and i was chosen to go to competition and went away and won a gold medal for sparring and silver medal but after that i got sick of it and just stopped going.

It was pretty fun but took to long to go up another belt!

I am 38 mate.I had the attack in January just past.Dont want another one so want to get fit again. No one really knows the cause of heart attacks. I had 3 blockages in my arteries and was leading a very stressful work life..Its hard at the top...
There is really not enough information or knowledge yet.

What is emerging is that the vegetable oils in foods are not very good for us.The manufacturing processess of foods is not with the best ingredients and the result are free radicals wrecking our arteries.. The arteries are attacked/inflammed every time we eat something bad for us. Natural food is the best. The healthiest oil is extra virgin olive oil..

You can be aerobically fit and still have blocked arteries to the heart.

I did TaeKwonDo for over 30 years thought for ten of them was ranked 13th in the world at one stage, along with myt?(sp) and Jekundo as well. Miss it like hell id did both my knees in and haven't be able to do it for years now. The Daughter is a black belt in Taekwondo and loves it. Bj

I start my first Karate class in half an hour.

I mainly interested in fitness, a Gym would be a bit boring for me.

I did kyokushin karate when i was younger and 4 years of Muay Thai.

Id say the latter is the most relevant to the street.

1 on 1 gracie Jiu Jitsu is the best but that is rare in todays world.

My English teacher is big on Aikido. Pretty cool some of the stuff he can do, with very minimal effort.

I agree! It's awesome but not very practical if you have more than one opponent. I was in the Peter DeBeen Gracie school. Want to get back into it again soon.

Guys all martial arts have something to offer.Gracie jujitsu is actually the birth of Brazillian ju jitsu. This along with muay thai is the most aggressive and direct forms of combat.Joint and bone breaks normally stop an opponent quick smart.
I have studied over the years ..hapkido,karate ,ninjitsu shinobi and my love is with the kung fu.I have a great respect for all and they suit different people .

I myself have enjoyed fighting in comps in Brazillian ju jitsu and Tae Kwon Do ( Was part of the 2000 SYD Team ). After almost 18 years the knees have wore out. Now I only train to keep fit.

My husband is the same way he finds Karate to be the aggressor of the two arts, but then both get the job done. What actually amazes me is the way some of the young guys he trained and trained with use to skyte about them being 'martial artists" to any and everybody when you are not supposed to.Oh well young guns looking to get their wings clipped.

From my favourite movie: Trading Places

Eddie Murphy (Billy Ray Valentine)
I had to keep him under surveillance.
I had to make sure he had his payroll before I made my move.

Young afro: Tell us how you cut him.

Eddie: With no knife.

Young afro: But last night you told me you cut the dude.

Eddie: With these I cut him. I am a chain belt in Kung Fu.
Bruce Lee was my teacher. Watch this

<Does a Bruce Lee impersonation>

That's the "quart of blood" technique.
Do it, a quart of blood drops out of a body.

Other guy in jail: - Tell him how you beat on the cop.

Eddie: Cops, plural.
Beat the **** out of ten cops and had to change my whole strategy around.

Big Barry White looking guy: YO! When they brought you in and booked you,
you was crying like a pussy.
Other big dark guy: Yeah.

Eddie: The cops threw tear gas in my face. And that's the kind of **** they use on crowds! And I still walked in like a man, so get outta my face.

Big Barry White looking guy: You beating up a man, putting him in hospital.
How come I don't see marks on you?
Other big dark guy: Yeah.

Eddie Cos I'm a karate man, all right. Karate men bruise on the inside. They don't show their weaknesses. But you don't know that because you're a big Barry White looking motherfruiter. Now get off my back, all right!

Sorry, but as soon as I saw karate, Eddie Murphy acting stupid came into mind.

Really good, loved it, got the wax on stuff down pat, but the painting the fence bit was hard.LOL

There were only two adults in the class, I thought for a little while that I was going to be the only adult. I felt a bit like Kramer in Seinfeld, when he takes Karate classes and he is the only adult and kicks all the little kid's butts, that is until the kids gang up on him.
