Default Slipping Slipping Slipping Away

When I am driving along at any speed but about 3000rpm, put my foot down, the revs rise and i slowly go somewhere.

So after I get to work today, I smell that oh so wonderful smell of burning clutch :S

I assume that this is the problem, what do you think ?

How much do clutches on these POS cars cost, I really think its time to trade and get rid of this nightmare now.

Chris

Sounds like clutch to me Chris.

On the Zetec I just paid the Ford Stealer $1500 for an Exedy clutch, (quote was $1350 for OEM clutch) That included some flywheel machining and fitting. God knows how much for the Getrag unit in yours

The price of the part was outrageous, and in hindsight, I should have bought one from a US website and had it flown in. Would have been cheaper. And will probably be cheaper for you (assuming the SVT spec is the same) to do that and pay for fitting. The labour shouldn't be much different between the Zetec and the ST170

Yeah thats what I am afraid of :S

I think its time to trade the car in on something with a warranty that will last.

Cheers for that

Good grief Chris, you just don't have any luck with that car do you.

How many ladders did you drive under in that car?

Yeah stupid prices from ford

Went to KPM Motorsport today, they are doing it for $1269 fitted, a hell of a lot better price.

Saw CDAA's car down there as well when i was talking to them.

Clutch shouldn't cost anymore than $250, labour shouldn't be anymore than $300.

I'll do the clutch for $100, but it'll take a day

My getrag 6 speed in my supra cost $800 for an exedy heavy duty ceremic clutch, i then put it in myself, if i'd bought a 5 speed supra it only would have cost $330 for the heavy duty one! :S
and the dual mass flywheel we had to machine by hand with emery paper :(

Yikes thats nasty..

The price above in the other post is quoted as fitted so wont be to much more then that.

Big question, do i keep the car and wait for the POS to break down again or trade it now and let the nightmare end.

have a look at the renault Megane sedan as I did today...

hot price for a car substantially more advanced than the focus.

Wife drives a Megane Scenic which I had to book in for a service and couldnt help peeping at the range.

I like the standard 3 year road side assist and electronic everything..
