Default Jaycar Speedo corrector: Works a treat.

Hey all i installed the jaycar speedo corrector in the xr8 today and it works amazing you can adjust it up to 99% up or down, very easy mod to do, i had to adjust mine 16% slower to accomodate for the 3.9's. Cant recommend it enough tho.

Shaun.

What did you set the dip switches to, and also did you put in the 1k resistor in r1 or r2?

Cool i was wondering what we had to do in the aus if we changed diff ratio's to get the speedo back in order.

G'day Shaun,

Didn't know about this kit. Is there a part # for it. Haven't got JayCar's catalogue, but may call 'em tomorrow.

cheers

i never actually installed it in my car so didnt really pursue the right settings for it...

there is a resistor that needs to be installed in one of two jumper locations and some dip switches that need to be set correctly in order to interpret and correct the signal to the speedo...

Shaun, have you got just the one corrector fitted between the VSS and the dash?

Have you found it has affected gearbox shift points at all? Or where the speed limiter cuts in?

i am actually looking to get an edit done on my car, and was just wondering if the speedo is controlled by the ecu and if the edit can correct it?

The edit can adjuct ecu actions that take place at a speed like speed limiter and auto transmisssion gear changes.

The edit can't change an input signal though.

From the wiring diagrams i've seen, the VSS signal goes from the (back of) trans, then to the dash, and then to the EEC.

The EEC has scalars for diff ratio, and tyre size...these are needed to interpret the signal from the VSS properly so it can calculate car speed properly (and car speed is used to define auto shift points).

You need the "edit" to change the value of these scalars in the EEC, otherwise you just put up with the difference in "car speed" related calculations.

No it can't. That's why I bought the Jaycar kit to correct it in my car, because the Edit couldn't.

Yep, that will be because the dash gets the signal direct from the VSS and not from the EEC.

The 1k resister needs to be put in R1 and the dip switches are as follows: LK1 on y, LK3 on x.

xr8ute: I got under the car and found the White wire on the VSS and cut it and then ran to wires into the cabin for the kit, just remember which end goes to the VSS and which to the dash/ecu.

Since ive installed it, it now holds the gear longer in D, it would only hold it to 5500rpm with foot flat and in D and now it will hold the gears til 6200rpm in D. so its changed the shift point a bit.

Shaun.

Also i forgot to mention there is another jumper link its LK2 and can be on F for faster or S for slower and can be corrected 99% faster or 99% slower.

Yeah, that makes sense. Thats because the EEC thinks you still have 3.45 gears in the diff, and is calculating the car speed based on that (and engine rpm).

The difference between 3.45 and 3.91 is about 13% right? 5500rpm x 113% = 6215rpm...

You could put another speed corrector between the dash and the EEC to change the signal back down to normal, and the EEC would be calculating road speed again properly

...or get the edit and change the value for the diff ratio to 3.9

...or just be happy with 6200rpm upshifts, and if your making power up there, then why not ;)

With a speedo corrector all you are able to do is correct the speedo signal which corrects the speedo reading. it can't edit the ecu change up points so they will be moved when you adjust the speedo. If you slow the speedo down by 10% then the car will rev harder 10% before changing gear.

With two speedo correctors in series one between the transducer and speedo and one between the speedo and ecu you can correct the speedo signal and uncorrect it back to the ecu. So you have the first one minus 10% to slow the speedo and the second one plus 10% to speed it back up to "normal' for thre ecu.

Okay this is getting confusing!!!!!
Lets say okay i change my diff ratio from std to a lsd 3.9 ???
How would they normally adjust the speedo at a workshop ???
OR the other option is if i do this jaycar mod am i right in saying i will need an edit to adjust the shift points again ???

Help this thread is confusing at this point in time

i think i might get mine fixed with a different gear in the transmition. i have changed this before in my old EA, i think it was just a little plastic gear that goes on the side of the trans somewhere.
