Default Engine oil change for WT Fiesta 2012

car newbie here, trying to figure out what oil to get for my car.

Currently at around 3500 km, washed the car on the weekend, check the oil dip stick and saw that the oil level is below the min mark.

The Ford manual says SAE 5W-30 as per Ford Specification WSS-M2C91-B

However im getting massively confused as to whether to go synthetic etc and whether my choice of oil will void my warranty.

help please!

Did you do it a few times? push the dipstick in all the way, pull it back out, wipe it clean, do it again, etc?

That's pretty weird it'll be below normal whilst that new. Has there been any oil spots under the car on the garage floor?

Any 5W30 oil should be fine.

As for Synthetic vs Dino Oil, recommendations are that you change the oil after 50km of driving. Switch to synthetic at no less than 3000km.

I tend to agree with and follow this guide when it comes to new engines.

Changing the oil to anything that's 5W30 shouldn't void your warranty.

They burn a fair bit of oil when new (the dealer told me it probably would and to make sure I check it often), ours still needing topping up between 15k services until about 60,000 km. But really drunk oil in the first 10,000km. I've used Castrol Edge Sport 5-30 the entire time after the first service (now at 165,000km) and had zero problems with the car. Engine is clean as a whistle inside and still sounds like new. It doesn't hardly use any oil now between 15k changes.

So its used almost 5L of oil in 3500km? Check it again. That's not right.

When i changed oil at 10,000km to synth from the stock oil on mine. The level was still above the minimum mark.

This is definitely not right

Ours definitely went down to the add/min line at around the first 5,000kms, that's only about half a litre or so. I'm sure it takes less than 1 litre to drop these cars clean off the dipsick. It depends how much time you have had to run the car in. Ours had to go straight to work on the highway the second it was bought so we didn't get time to hammer it up the ocean road until it had done 10,000kms? after that it was much better on both oil use and power.

I'd be surprised if anyone could get one to the full 15k service without a top up when the car is new. You would have to drive the car very hard very early in it's life to wear it in enough for that.

I got to 15K with NO Topup (WS). Castrol Edge 5W30. Mostly City driving.
