Went out to the back yard to do some weeding this afternoon. Sometime during the last week some lowlife (more than likely a "bored" teen traversing the path from the skate park up the way) has smashed the tail lights out of my Dad's EA that lives there. It's not a mint example but the tail lights were whole and in good nick and it is on MY property. Public flogging is too good for these self entitled prats!

If they identify as LGBTIQ+ ABC will cover their journeys no doubt.

Last Sunday evening at 8pm, I was forwarded a message from a neurotic client (I'm the subcontractor on this job), complaining that two shrubs were poking through the fence at one of the commercial properties I maintain on a fortnightly basis. Because I was there earlier in the day, he was advised that it would addressed at the next visit in two weeks.

Tonight, Sunday evening at 8pm, 7 days later, the guy complains that the shrubs hadn't been trimmed yet.

How is it that two shrubs, poking about 10cm out of a vertical rail fence, are such a concern that it warrants contacting a tradesman on a Sunday evening about. Twice! Two shrubs that are not impeding foot path traffic, are not a health and safety hazard, are not blocking a view. This is a garden that lines the carpark and surrounds the building used by a local medical "professional".

This is the same customer, one with considerable wealth and assets, who decided paying me 2 to 3 hours a month to maintain this garden was too greedy. He discontinued the service, only to end up having me come back when the place went to sh.t. Guess what, there is more to garden maintenance than spraying weeds with roundup.

I'm in two minds, ignore the idiot and turn up next week as planned. Or, go there tomorrow, out of my way, and butcher the two shrubs to oblivion and then wait for the complaints about it looking crap.

The older I get, the more I realise humans over complicate things so bloody much. In this case, its two measly shrubs that are absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Now, I could say that I do the same overcomplication with detailing or lawn mowers. The difference is, I'm not pestering others in the process. I would suggest this guy finds a hobby, but then he would probably outsource that too.

I would go there on a Sunday, trim the bush then charge call out fee, charge an exorbitant rate for it being a Sunday and being urgently required by (insert name here) and send the bill also CC'ing him by return message with payment required by the close of business Monday due to it being out of your contract hours .

I’d remove the shrubs completely, and ignore all enquiries about where they went.

…I have a much lesser gripe this evening. Setting up to swap a deployed inertia reel pretensioner and discovered it's on the same side as the retractor spring but underneath it. So I get to rewind a greasy ribbon spring with about a zillion turns. (I’ll cheat and slip the belt end out of the cassette so I can just rotate the drum to wind it.)

That sounds like an out of cycle extra visit. That’s a 2 hr min charge.

I have a few customers like that, will call wanting a job( big or small) done TODAY. My next point of conversation is normally “I’m booked to be at your place in 48hrs can it wait untill then?”
I’ve had them crack it, say they will get someone else, except there are no gardeners sitting around waiting for work TODAY, I get to do the job in 48hrs as planned. Dumbahses.

We’re lucky to get below 55% RH on the hot days recently. Makes a huge difference in a nasty way.

Southerly unheard of in Summer here.

Was looking forward to the weekly instalment of Dash Cam Owners Australia, only to find it’s restricted to grown-ups this week. All that anticipation, wasted.

Ah, good ol' 2024.

Had a plumber here today, blocked drains again. My normal go-to has put the tools down as of last week and moved into retail so new guy who was pleasant enough, thorough and does cashies.
However lets see what 2024 has brought us so far... Aircon failure, so replacement of some plastic fittings, new pads and a cleanup. Then we had bees in the wall, so get a guy in to spray and dust. Keeping the bees company, next up a family of possums moved in. We counted 5 leaving after installing a 1-way door. No more pests, time to relax. Except the big screen decided its time was up. She has been re-capped once before so replacement has been ordered..delivery date the Monday AFTER Rd1 of V8s is on, grrr. Bring in the one from outside, time to chill, its hot out there. Aircon blows hot air again...wtf. Pump not going. WD40 getting me out of trouble, not sure for how long but wife somehow still smiling. Drains glugging last night, enjoyed a 75 second shower this morning. Plumber saves the day. Oh and my sons 18th birthday present rocked up today. I ordered it 1st of Feb, he turned 18 on the 16th, today is the 20th, so annoyed he had to wait. 19 days from Melb to Adel.
And the dogwash dude kinked my unkinkable hose, how?!?!
2024 has not been kind, what are we, 7 weeks in?

Have you put a camera down the pipes? Sounds like you’ve got something that at least needs jetting, if not re-laying.

I prefer Scott's Dash Cam, with these segments.
Ranger Danger, Bogan Alert, we got one, and you know what time it is, it's "Shite bag titty fcku of the week".

We considered using a camera at one point but we've played the game enough now to know that the roots are getting in from a dogleg in the PVC. Our block slopes down to the road all the way from the back of the property and that section of pipe that plunges downward before turning to go horizontally under the shed is where the crack is. Its a looong way down, close to 2m so you can imagine the hole required to work/replace that section. Its near impossible, so have spent years tossing up between repair or regular maintenance. I've dug plenty around the place, its not easy going even half as deep as needed.

This is the first time however I have had someone in with a hydro setup. Has always been the mechanical snake and cutting heads so I am quietly confident the pipes have never been clearer. We swear we can hear a difference when running water in the sink last night.

Melbourne get's one hot day and they go into a mad panic mode, declaring most of the state in a total fire ban.
Meanwhile the rest of the state north of the range have continuing hot weather for weeks, no fire bans and we all manage to survive.

I received an email from sutpo today with a 'deal' to upgrade my sons phone plan. $38* for 100gb data. Yep i seen the *. I may be dumb but im not a idiot. The * when you press the thing to see the terms etc says $38 per for 12 months then it jacks up to $59 per. My boy is on a good plan from sutpo, $40 per and 100gb. I pay it and its been rather good value for the last few years i reckon. I guess they are trying to sucker people into to false 'deals'.

I lost my car for most of an hour this afternoon. Couldn’t remember where I’d parked it in Chatswood - just the general area. Walked several kilometres of the street grid until it appeared. Perfectly stabled under a “No Parking” sign.

Yep. Total fire ban today...........despite it pouring rain from the early hours of Wednesday till about 11am. So, everything is damp.

The way weather is reported these days, its simply over exaggerated. It kills business too, almost like people get brainwashed into thinking if they venture outdoors on a hot day they will catch fire or float away if it's going to rain.

Ha love it.
We parked in a CBD carpark tonite. Walked out one way and came back another. We walked up and down and back again, until we found the car.....yes, we spoke of the Seinfeld episode haha.

Default Re: Geez! I hate that!

A trick I picked up off the younger ones, particularly in a multi-story car park, is to take a pic of the nearest identifier (column number, etc) and then refer to that when you come back. Delete pic once back in your car.

Might be especially useful for those getting on a bit and struggling to rely on their memory as they age.....
