Default How's the weather?

How's the weather? Everyones favourite small talk subject.
We've all been talking about it lately from record heat to record rains. So why not have a thread about to let everyone know how good or bad you've got it in your neck of the woods and to check in with other members of the AFF family around the country.

I’m not a happy bunny in Sydney with our current run of weather. Less humidity would be a good start.

It has been sometime since I heard such loud thunder and light show.
I’m the north end of Sydney and it sounded like it was just outside my window.
Scared the crap out of me.

Sure the humidity the last weeks has been appaling like I’ve been in cairns during the wet season.

Today on my weather wall max readings (45.1 C). The evap air is still holding its own but I am glad our street was not one of the ones in Bibra Lake where the power went out for 12 hours plus from 7:00am today. Some homes are still without power. the last SMS froM Western Power was the less than helpful: "Apologies, we're unable to provide an estimated time of when power in BIBRA LAKE will be restored and will send updates as soon as we can." And just then " Outage update: we estimate the power in BIBRA LAKE will be restored by Today around 09:00PM. Thanks for your patience."

I recall saying to friends years ago Sydney is getting more and more like being at the goldy worse Sunshine/Cairns areas.
I recall whilst in Cairns many years ago during wet season having a shower your sweating putting a fresh shirt back on - it was the same this weekend here getting ready to head out.
Stood in front of the aircon to dry up.
I don't mind dry heat, be it 35+ up but the humidity sucks more imo.

Its surreal.

In two words..."its fudged!".

The 5 minute storm that took out half a million home's electricity in Vic was one hella strange weather event. It was hot and dry one minute, then storm the next, then all clear sky in low 20s....all in space of a few hours.

The storm took out all the traffic lights and shops in my area, yet my house still had electricity. Even the servos were offline. As soon as the power came back (I was walking the dog at the time, and so were thousands of others...cos there was nothing else to do ) you saw all these cars flock to the servos.

Its a bit surreal driving through some of the suburbs that got hit hard. The severity of the damage varies from street to street. One street is all clear with no sign of damage, the next is a disaster zone.

I think we can put the bed the debate around climate change. Its going to be a matter of whether man can do anything about it now.

Its shithouse, been around 35* for a week now, dry and dusty.
Cars have never looked so dirty, impossible to keep them clean which is triggering my OCD and the swampy smells like dirt.
Give me 10* any day, can always put on more clothes, can only take so much off.

It's always a few degrees hotter than the nearest weather station at Jandakot airport at the the top of the hill here in Bibra Lake where I live near the Mitchell Freeway Roe Highway Intersection. I am told by BOM when I asked many years ago it's something to do with the topology and convection currents but I always thought the higher you went the colder it got. I understand that the lower areas Of Bibra Lake are closer to the lake and surrounding park bushland and also closer to the ocean and those things are cooling but I wonder why are we hotter than Jandakot airport that sits in the lee of our little hill. I have checked the calibration of weather wall with various thermometers digital and old style mercury ones and it's definitely the correct outside shaded temperature. Perhaps eh adjacency to the freeway has an impact.

I’ll be honest, not happy about Thursday or Friday this week; on the back of so much rain it will be intensely humid.
Right now, the dry creek bed that runs across and then down the side of my yard, is flowing happily and the junior brush turkey is wet to his skin - wants to come inside the house.

I tend to not follow BOM much as they like to chop and change.

We still use our old boats barometer to get an accurate read of the weather. The air pressure here is currently sitting at 1030 and steady signifying the dry heat.
After living aboard for several years we would predict patterns in advance and didn't rely on BOM.

A fast falling barometer usually meant time to batten down, even living a long way from the coast we still like to follow the old seafaring advice.

First rise after low, foretells a strong blow.

With the rain before the wind top sails you must closely mind but with the wind before the rain top sails you may set again.

Long foretold long last, short notice soon past.

Mackeral skies and Mare's tails, make tall ships carry small sails.

When the porpoise jumps, stand by your pumps

not that there's too many porpoise's nearby here.

Can you send me a male brush turkey, I could use him to move all the falling gum leaves into a nice neat mound.

GSS Report - For the third year in a row I have taken the cotton cloth cover off the XB in the garage to stop the growth of mold spores on the windows and the paint. Everything is just constantly damp. The car is filthy with sticky dust.

Anyone fancy a trip to Marble Bar? Current forecast is tomorrow 45 degrees before a cool change on Friday with 40. Then for the weekend it’s 41 and 43, and the next working week it’s set to be 44 on Monday and 45 on Tuesday.

As I write this it’s 42.9 degrees.

I remember the Victorian 08/09 Summer, we weren’t too far off this kind of stretch.

Remember that well, was working (trying to) in Stanley. Lots of surrounding pine forests, super heated winds and no phone service.
Did the right thing, up sticks and left, fires started that afternoon outside Beechworth.
