Default throwing power steering belts

hey i had this problem on the way to work i threw my car back to second and put my foot down to get through a set of lights and it threw my power steering belt off, i got the raa out to put it back on (i didnt have my tools with me) as the things a bit of a tank to drive and 225 tyres dont help. it ran fine after that, then on the way home from work someone was doing 40 in a 60 so i threw it back to third to get by and it did it again. what could be the problem here, the belt was tight nothing seems loose.

This has happened to me a few times in the past. I found my belt was a bit too big and ended up fitting one from an EA or XH or something...

Everytime I've gone to get an ED belt, they're always too big. It's weird, EA/XH belt (can't remember which one) fits nicely on mine though - no idea why..

get a new belt, yours is stuffed.

IIRC you can get them from holden (shock, horror!) they are an AC Delco item and hence, not the spawn of the devil, they are very cheap and fixed my problem too - in 2004 sometime my car started throwing belts - went through prob 4 of them, changed power steer pump pulley, crank pulley, idler pulley, then tried a different brand of belt, never had a problem since, and have done maybe 40,000 on the current one.

Also had the same problem.... racing a calais went to turn the corner and nearly plowed into the bushes. when i checked the belt, it was kinda hardened and twisted so a new belt and its sitting on there fine!

also check the pump is aligned with the harmonic balancer. sometimes a few washers to push out the pump can help solve this problem too...

i had this problem and it was annoying me for quite a while. i went through a fair few new power steering belts. i found out eventually it was actually the belt i was using... the belt was the right length but for some reason it had ribs in it and was just a tiny bit too wide for the pulleys causing the belt to twist after a while and fly off. even though this was the belt they listed for it.

so lesson learnt don't buy belts from supercheap auto.. lol

the belt i got is a bosch, so its a decent one. from putting it back on last time i did the thing up f@&king tight, it hasnt come off yet and been driving round for two like it. only thing is its to tight and now the steering feels a tad heavy and car feels slower.
