Default Had a bit of an accident Sunday night.

Fell from a balcony, broke my hip. Currently in flinders medical centre on some strong medication, recovering from surgery yesterday. Looks to be a 12 week process and even then I may struggle to walk properly for a bit. Should make a full recovery though.
Let me say this to any young people reading. Even a minor amount of alcohol can impair your perceptions and make you think you can do things you can't. I had 6 beers at a work mates, leant over the balcony to shout out at a mate and lost my balance. I'm lucky it was only a first floor balcony, and that I wasn't injured more severely. Look after yourself guys.

****! That sux. If it makes you feel any better I ran over my own foot with the forklift I was operating and an ex workmate broke both his legs trying to jump from a balcony...

Recovery will be a slow process for you unfortunately. :(

Did it hurt like hell?

You will be fine.

@ 35 years of age I smashed my femur and hip bone (big time), 10 days later I was walking.

@ 40 years of age, I broken an ankle and it was nearly 3 months before I was allowed to put weight on it.

Ummm............how did you run over your own foot if you're operating the forklift? Wouldn't that mean you're sitting in the operator's seat?

Perhaps he had one of his legs hanging out or was simply operating the forklift from outside i.e. lifting something while making sure the load didn't tip by holding onto it?
I've seen both.

Sorry to hear about your incident.

I only made comment to the wife about how often you hear of accidents involving falling over balconies lately.

Saw a lady trying to catch a wedding bouquet go over on the teev this morning.
There was the Port power player falling from casino roof in LasVegas last offseason.
The schoolies week had warning about this stuff

Is it just me?

First attempt at a walk today caused me to pass out from pain. Upped the pain killers to tramadol, powerful stuff. Endone does nothing, fentalyn is ok for a bit. Will be a long recovery process I'm afraid :(
Thanks for the well wishes guys, means a lot.

I go home today! Time to start the long road of recovery.
Spoke to work today and I will have a job to go back to thank god. Until then I'll most likely be claiming a benefit.

If it makes you feel any better, my mate who was 17 at the time was at work, picked up his boss' son and went to dunk him in the sink and he slipped on the floor, fell down and broke his hip, the little one survived unscathed luckily.

He has recovered now, can walk ok so I guess age is on your side

i've been there and done that , except with me it was 2 vertabrae in 2 different spots of my spine . i could not lye down for 7 weeks and had to sleep sitting up on the lounge . he will need rehab as his head will sag into his chest now as the spine wont support his head properly . but 2 years later i am completely normal and have no sign of this injury . tell him to get councilling and do rehab for 3 to 6 months . he's going to need it , and he can recover fully .
i had no surgury .

My list has now grown to hip.
So, both arms, two vertebrae, hip, jaw, nose twice, 5 fingers, two ribs, both ankles, right foot and....that's it.
I am far too accident prone!
