Default Considering buying a coupe. What should I look for?

I'm considering buying an XA-XC coupe.
What are the common problem areas I should look for?
Which parts are hard to come by?
Not looking for a project or a show car, but something in between.

There is quite alot to look for really. First bit of advice is take someone with you who knows what they are looking for and can play the devils advocate.

Rust is the number one ..... whether it be restored or not, you need to know the rust spots and how bad they are. Plenum, hardest to see behind the guards though, back window, boot and gutters, bottom of the 1/4's, inside the door near the latch, doors, chassis rails ... etc. Dont be too worried about the rust if you do notice some. I would be more concerned if you didnt see any on a more stock un restored car!

Most bits for coupes are available either rare spares, GT Performance or ebay. More complete the better though.

Check tags and make sure they match the towers.

Thanks for that advise.

I looked at a car today that had light sratches on both left and right door glass. Is replacement glass easy to find?

It had been repainted over 7 years ago and I couldn't see any rust or bubbles in the paint. I even stuck my finger up under the panel behind the rear window and it felt clean.

Yes it is ..... GT Performance has new glass either tinted green or std. Not overly expensive either.

Light scratches on glass??
Depends how much $$ you are willing to part with!
No tinting on the windows makes a lot of scratches dissapear.
Then again, some inperfections add to to the patina and character of the vintage car.
You want a new car, go and buy a 2008 new car from the dealers showroom
A vintage or 34year old car will have some inperfection or will cost some serious coin!
