Word on the street is that Toyota Australia have stopped taking orders for the 86 - just not enough supply.

Best bet might be to check out the Subaru in case they have enough stock.

I知 wondering how long it will take before modified versions of the 1UZ FE find their way in to an 86 once the car is on the market here. I doubt the emissions compliance of the engine would allow it to be registered, however, I recon you壇 be rubbing door handles with a Lotus Elise and having a lot of fun doing it on a track.

I知 sure one of these would look very nice in the engine bay.

I think that this car will set new standards for relatively cheap and more importantly, fun motoring.

I知 looking at a test drive to satisfy my own curiosity.

I doubt that VERY much, EVERY dealer worth his pinch of salt would take EVERY single deposit on Agent86 and tell the customer any sort of quasi lie.

We have seen extreme high demand before, Holden SS V8 Utes, Mazda MX5, MazdaCX5 and even the Golf GTi and its smaller sibling the Polo GTi

Manufacturers catch up in the end, supply increases/demand decreases new model/brand comes out, a better mouse trap comes out and the game starts all over again

MUSTANG MY13, kicks off @ $22k in USA, could well be sold for $29,990 here if Ford really wanted to.

Charge say $5k extra for the V8 [from the std. V6] and i bet EVERY single person would tick the box, extra $5k per sale for Ford.

Ford need to find some passion, what the customers want to buy [F150 Please] and less what they *think* we want [sorry Falcon]

And is the MY13 Mustang engineered for RHD production?

Yeap, no vision, lots of Fords are made in both LHD and RHD, Mustang is but just another model.

This is another reason why GM & Chrysler went bust, and Ford had to near sell off near everything/assets ie Volvo, Jaguar, L/Rover even its icon badge, [not farm, as in Fairlane] to save itself and just made it over the finish line, while the Asians are booming in sales, total wrong attitude from Americans, all too hard and difficult, just buy what we make, we dont care if u dont like it, and pay me a bonus too, and like i said no vision.

They pioneered cars and mass production, the Asians have taken it to the next level.

Lol, your living in a dream world. I don't understand why you are on a rampage? A Toyota owner cut your grass?

The GT 86 is light on its feet, not dainty exactly, but super accurate and so well balanced. I know it's not especially relevant, but the ease with which this thing lets go at the back end is so refreshing, and even when not arsing about it's just a joyful thing.

On the track, it means you have to be smart about the way you attack a corner. You can稚 just hook in, stomp on the accelerator and hang the tail all the way out, because it doesn稚 necessarily have the horsepower to maintain the drift. You must be disciplined, feed the power on more carefully for a more progressive slide

Quote:
Get on the power mid-corner, however, and the front-engined, rear-drive chassis hunkers down and drives hard out of corners with the sort of poise we've not seen before in a Toyota. Ask more of it and the 86 will easily generate power oversteer in the lowest three gears. Not that it ever feels anything but totally adjustable. Want more oversteer? Simply dial in more throttle and the level of opposite lock increases accordingly, until the stability control throws out its subtle anchors.

Lol. I wouldn't be quoting top gear if you want any credibility.

So let's get this right: 4 different, experienced testers from a magazine with huge sales numbers are all wrong?

Understanding of course, that after EVOs criticisms of the McLaren against 458, McLaren went and made wholesale changes to it's supercar. If McLaren believe EVO know what they're talking about, that's good enough for me.

Top gear have more credibility then you.

Funny, in the evo vid, how it a gentle flick, and some throttle lift, the rear end sticks out. Feed it a bit to stick it..

Sounds like a good sports car to me.

And the evo reviews praise it...

I believe that was an earlier test, where driving was heavily restricted.

I suggest you read the latest issue: on the cover: "2000 miles in the new BRZ and why it's not good enough." It is then tested by 4 different journalists (a couple who race) and all 4 draw the same conclusion. And like I said, if McLaren is prepared to take their criticisms and make big changes then hey: Id happily say that McLaren has more credibility than anyone on this forum. End of story.

Mike, nikked: you know you've comprehensively lost an arguement when you resort to low brow name calling. I couldn't be bothered taking offence, but I'd say that's game, set, match.

I'm not sure if or why there is an 'arguement' or that anyone has won??

A new car has been released, and it looks to be popular, well priced and RWD.

It doesnt have 1000rwhp or every gadget under the sun. But so what.

To say that one particular Car is crap because one particular magazine said so is crazy. I'll bet for every single car made you could find magazines and reviewers who love it, and those who hate it, sure read them for reference or interest but that's about it.

When someone selects only reviews of a car which support their own negative point of view, when so many reviews are positive, to me that isn't "winning" whatever it is your trying to win. Bet I could find negative and positive articles on fiestas, and select only the negative to show how crap they are....

This thread is about the new Toyota 86, and by all means post your criticisms, but I think your point has well and truly been made, you don't like it.
And yes I don't like FWD, though I don't go into a thread about a new FWD car and bang on thread after thread after thread about how much I don't like it, I've mentioned it in this thread a few times because YOU can't seem to understand that my opinion differs from yours.

Motoring magazines are written by motoring journalists.
Motoring Journalists are people.
People have opinions.
Opinions are based on experiences, prejudices, and biases.

I read Wheels regularly, but hold some writers opinions higher than others (within the same magazine) Wheels COTY winners dont have much to do with the opinions of some of their contributing writers - its a criteria/voting system, quite different to the usual comparison methods.

Peter Robinson was the Wheels journo who put the 86 ahead of the Cayman. He's been driving and writing about cars all around the world - yes, even Europe, for decades. Ferrari banned him from their plush journalist facilities in Italy the 90's cause he was the only journo with the guts to write what he really thought of one of their cars. (in Wheels) The guy does have credibility, even though he doesn't race. (like most of us)

Every review I've read of the Toyota and Subaru has been overwhelmingly positive - Wheels, Motor Trend, Car Advice - plus a few others I cant remember. So all of those publications, and the rest, is wrong, and EVO is right? EVO being out on their own would call into question their own credibility more than anything else.

My main point is, not all journos will agree, and you wont agree with all journos. You find a journo/publication who's priorities/rating system is compatible with your own, and you have a good source of information for your next purchase/forum argument. Doesn't mean the other publication/enthusiast is wrong - they're just looking at it differently and/or have different expectations/requirements.

If the 86 is too underpowered for you, thats fine, move on. Why try to convince everyone its rubbish because it doesn't meet ONE of YOUR criteria?
