Twas in the end, an ok sanga. But I've gotta have sauce on mine, or it's just not cool. And I think the bacon was a) overdone b) too fatty and c) not good quality. (plus I gave myself food poisoning with **** eggs with my egg and bacon fryup this weekend, not helpful).

i do like the fact that I can shove my chips in there, without ruining the structural integrity of the closed sanga a bit.

This onion jam was rather sweet, and overpowering. A little bit more subtle and it would have been better.

Good work to everybody who has contributed to this thread, and yes it is about time for a revival. Was just reviewing my previous posts and strangely enough a number of the stores in my area that produced the crappier ones are now out of business. That's economics for you - if you can't give the people what they want you best walk away from the game.

I would like to reiterate my stance on onion jam (you gaylords that like it, what are we to do with you ) and remind everybody that homemade efforts must also be accompanied by a sample for all to determine their own judgement on the result.

Other than that - open season.

Price: $18
Date Consumed: Dec 1st
Comments: A very decent sized serving but how do you manage to burn toast? A minute steak was utilised well.. Nice and tender, the peppery rocket was nice and fresh and melted cheese was melted just enough to make it creamy without the cardboard taste, with a tomato sauce atop . The carmilised onions (a must in any sanga) were also cooked well. Served with shoestring fires that were nice and crunchy and topped off with a pint of Fat Yak
Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): Solid 4... If it wasn't for the burnt top it would be an easy 4.5.

I'm more than happy to provide samples. You'll just have to make the trip to south east Melb :P

Price: $14.95
Date Consumed: Dec 1st
Comments: Served on a ciabatta wholemeal roll (square, not round) with scotch fillet steak cooked somewhere between rare and well done at either end of the steak, served with rocket, beetroot relish, tomato, egg (cooked the way I like it) mustard and herb mayo. Flavours worked well together so was a good bite.
Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): 3.5, based on the amount of mustard (not enough), too much rocket and the weirdness of the cooking of the steak.

Didn't get a pic as the missus would've looked at me weirdly.

Comments: Fresh ingredients, all the trimmings inc. egg and bacon, however steak was thin and only used normal sandwich bread, staff very friendly and helpful.
Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): 3.5 - fresh ingredients and lots of fillings help to make up for average bread.

Haven't read through the 8 pages of this thread but my thinking is it could be expanded to include ratings of experiences with "ladies of the night". (Without going into graphic details of course).

Thought i might bring this back up as i had my first steak sanga for a while.

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Malvernvale Hotel, Vic
Price: $10
Date Consumed: 24/01/12
Comments: Was a reasonably hot day so we though we might head to the pub for lunch and catch some of the cricket... Steak sanga came out look good from afar but on close inspection was far from good..
Was served on a turkish bread which was really nice ( the best bit) but the steak was thin and tiny and didnt cover the length or width of the bread which is not on.
and adding to the fact there were stuff all of the trimmings only a little tomato lettuce cheese, three drops of bbq sauce and an egg and piece of bacon that were cooked to hell, it turned out to be a bad experience.
was served with chips which were unsalted, tasted ordinary at best and there was only about 10 of them. washed down with a pub squash

Seeing this thread reminded me of a steak sanga I had just before Xmas but forgot to post it up.

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Jindalee Hotel - Brisbane, QLD
Price: $14.95
Date Consumed: 10ish/12/11
Comments: The steak was fantastic and quite tender and seasoned well, plenty of bacon and grilled onion and just the right amount of salad. The BBQ sauce was very tasty and smokey. The turkish bread is toasted just nicely. The sanga looks deceivingly small because they are bloody big chips next to it. I always take the missus as she can only do a half one of these and I usually give her the good ole "Alright...I'll finish yours for ya!"
Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): 4.5 - loss of half a point for the price. They used to be $10 even but over night they went to $14.95!!
