For eg.......your "free range" chickens only have to walk on grass on the way to the truck, to be classified as "free range". As far as Aldi goes.....early on they weren't good. Now we do 90% of our shopping at Aldi, including fruit n vege! We love their general food and product standards that limit chemicals and rubbish additives! A bit of research shows they put a fair bit of effort into selling good quality and fresh foods as much as possible, using more and more locally sourced food companies! I also concur that in general, the random household items they sell are good value! |

Not to mention their very cheap ORGANIC range! Try buying that elsewhere! Or "wild caught" fish, salmon and sardines for eg! Try buying that anywhere! Mercury free! Aldi is a game changer.......I could talk all night about good products they have......then you can add how cheap it is on top........ Just for the hell of it......we fill a trolley.....roll it to the car and plop the food into bags that sit in the boot!works very well! |

Nothing wrong with Aldi stores, they are there for a reason & serve all communities quite well, I truly support these type of stores.
Enough said. |

When I worked in retail for Coles-Myer, it was a firm company requirement that store managers and or duty managers must provide their surname to any customer who asks. But not so for any other staff; first names only.
It was reasonably considered that anybody looking after a $3+ million store should be fully accountable for its day-to-day performance—or lack thereof. ALDI obviously disagree with this perfectly reasonable requirement—which I'm guessing is because of the old "no names, no pack drill" adage.

Aldi is great for generic stuff and day to day basics. It's a good business model that works and has a growing customer base. Most of their products are Australian made too. We save heaps when we buy there. |

And I think Tempted is wrong about Aldi...100%, although they were BAD to start with! Maybe they're worth another crack! If not simply to support Aus products and to eat a tad healthier. Oh and the cost....... Actually I'll go out on a limb and suggest if people aren't going to Aldi at least occasionally, they're either Brand snobs, super lazy, uneducated or there's no store nearby! |

We're getting Aldi in Perth soon. Looking forward to it, I have fond memories when we were travelling in 2004 and had an Aldi just down the road from our caravan park. Be interesting to see one again.

I didn't realise that ALDI was selling cage eggs. Tsk, tsk. I note that both Coles and Woolworths have confirmed they're discontinuing cage eggs; has ALDI done the same?
Living in the sticks, it's easy for me to buy free range eggs, and actually see their source environment... I have to disagree with the ethics of buying ALDI eggs just because they're cheap; what about the well-being of the chooks? Someone claimed that your "free range" chickens only have to walk on grass on the way to the truck, to be classified as "free range", which is erroneous. The Free Range Egg and Poultry Association of Victoria (for example) has a standards code that farmers must adhere to in order to get free range certification. And for those who claim that ALDI buys their meat from local farmers, could you please provide some sort of evidence to back this up, or is it just a personal guess? When I last asked in-store, nobody was willing to divulge where their meat originated. They couldn't even confirm their pork or bacon as Australian-sourced!

Amazing the scrutiny the relative newcomer Aldi faces from those locked in to the Coles/Woolies shopping "experience".
Coles was shown to be bringing bread in from Europe yet Aldi has to answer which specific farm in Australia its meat comes from. |

I would also argue if you looked at a Coleworths packet of meat it wouldn't have much information either Personally I have little time for the Colesworths shopping experience, I have know desier to sift through 72 different brands of rice |
