I could handle the Onion Jam.
In fact dare I say it again but some
of it is quite nice.
But Pesto....FFS. Ya gotta be s...in me.
Worse still in a country pub.
See what movies like Broke Back Mountain do.
The insight wide spread acceptabililty
of homo products in our good old
country values which in turn sends all
our country pub institutions like
a good old steak sanga into dis reput.

How about a tapanade next or a "consume"???

Steak. Toast. Onion. Some salad. Sauce.
Perfect.

Please do, I'll send him a bag of concrete

Anything that even comes close to a Tapanade, Pesto, Jam or other crap like that is NOT welcome on a steak sandwich. Captain Cook would be rolling over in his grave.

Yeah you really do have to appreciate a good home made steak sandwich. I picked up three kilos of rib fillet the other day for ten bucks, so I might have to give a home made one a go. Shame I don't know how to make onion jam though.

Just think of the gayest thing you can do with onions (aside from putting them up there):

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Hog's Breath Cafe - Knox Shopping Centre (O-Zone)
Price: $15 I think
Date Consumed: 21/8/08 (amongst quite a few other times)
Comments: Fairly large steak sandwich served with curly chips and salad. Thick white bread with onions, beetroot and all the usual fillers... Very tender steak with BBQ sauce. Perfect balance of flavours and texture (not sloppy or stale) and washed down with a pot of Carlton Draught.

Perfect. Meal.

Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): 4.5/5

Was there any relish or onion jam?
I am hoping it was just bbq sauce. thats the way to do it.
man i love this thread.

I think we need a possible new one at some point for the best chips.
I just had the most amazing thick cut double deep fried monsters (so thick they were almost wedges) -they were chips though. The Monash cafe in leichhardt. Amazing stuff.
I will have to try the steak sanga on Monday.

I always have bad luck with Hog Breath steaks. All the cuts I seem to be served always contain about 75% fat.

I have actually had one or 2 that had a lot of fat on them. But every other time there has been a small to minimal amount. I've found with the Hog's Breath near me, that there is really good consistency with the steak and ingredients.

Hopefully next time (if there is one for you) you'll get a decent cut of steak on your sandwich.

To Henry Ford, no relish or jam. Just rings of red onion and BBQ sauce how it should be!

Right, the mrs just made me one up so I am going to review that. Now don't worry about bias here as I am her harshest judge when it comes to food.

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Home.
Price: What ever the ingredients cost, don't go to the supermarket so don't know.
Date Consumed:1/9/08
Comments: Good sized sandwich on thickish white bread, toasted to perfection (She's learnt well lol). Inside was found to contain a piece of sandwich steak that was quite tender. The sandwich was put together in this precise order, she has her ways lol, starting from the bottom up. Toast, a little tomato sauce, cheese, steak, fried egg, fried onion, a little more sauce, beetroot, tomato, lettuce, a little more sauce and then the lid. As you can see below it looks a little messy (pics are of both sandwiches) but it really held together well with minimal contents to be found on the plate at the end. It was assisted by a stubby of Victoria's finest...VB. This is a no nonsense straight up aussie steak sango.

I am a very happy camper

Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): 5/5. Big call I know but I am yet to taste better than her's anywhere. The pics speak for themselves.

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Frank and Sue's Cafe, just next to Clyde Station, Granville.

Price: $6.80 with "The Lot". $3.00 for a glass bottle Coke.

Date Consumed: 17th Sept 2008

Comments: White bread lightly toasted.
"The Lot" included Lettuce, tomato, beetroot, bacon, an egg and a slice of pineapple.
The piece of steak whilst being cooked quite nicely, was so thin it was barely noticeable in this packed sandwich.
The bacon was cooked to perfection as was the egg.
The pineapple was a surprise inclusion and actually went down nicely.
Overall despite being nearly perfectly cooked and well presented,
this sandwich scores low simply because the piece of steak was almost non-existant
and despite the quantity and quality of the extras it failed to satisfy.

Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): 2.5/5. A better, thicker piece of steak would have made this sandwich an easy 4.

Sorry no pics. (Camera in phone is stuffed)

Sounds alright though! Glad this one got dug up.

Name of Cafe/Restaraunt: Unknown as it had only just opened and they hadnt got their signs up yet, but it is opposite the Bonegilla Boat Shop near Latchford Barracks for anyone that knows the area.

Price: $6.00 with "The Lot" - off to a good start!

Date Consumed: 16th Sep

Comments: A great sandwich made very well. About the only thing I didnt like was that the lettuce was the ordinary stuff you get when it comes from the very middle, and the bread was actually a foccacia. Otherwise very good.

Star Rating (out of 5, 5 highest 1 lowest): I'll go with 3 because it was a lot of food for the money but a few slight things (as per above) let it down.

Had a beauty today at Burger Inc in Pakington St, Geelong West. Tender tasty steak with bacon, caramelised onion, smoked cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and beetroot in a toasted roll. $9.90 4/5, tasty and well made (I didnt wear it).

The best steak sandwich I ever had was at the Barwon Club Hotel in Geelong but I'm not the right age for the mob there, now.
