Maybe, maybe not. I'm happy with my car, what I paid for it, what I've done to it and it aint going anywhere any time soon! I did not come on here and complain that I've spent $xx on it.

Cars are money pits as we all know, but it gets to the point where if you're spending significant cash maintaining (not modifying) a car, you need to cut your losses and bail out.

My ED had just under 205,000 on it when I got it.

Seens as I have put just about everything new into it I reset it back to 000,000
and now after driving it every day for 1 week I have just clicked up 600km.

Well I got my 500,000 out of my original engine, gearbox and diff but I had to coax the engine the last 10,000. I gave up giving it oil changes about 20,000km ago as it started leaking oil pretty badly.

It ran low on oil a few times but kept running with the valve gear complaining a bit and the oil pressure gauge dropping into the red around corners and up hills.

The last few days on the old engine it was needing a 7 litre top up of coolant per day.

So much smoother and more powerful with a 124,000 km old engine fitted but surprisingly no more economical. Not that fuel economy ever got bad.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Early build EB2 wagon, manual, cruise and a few other nice factory and dealer options.

Now with an NC Ghia interior, Fairmont cluster, polished "Turboblade" wheels, 21/2" Redback exhaust, LPG, XH snorkel, EF fans and an AU XR6 rocker cover.

Just over 300,000 - I've had it since 75,000, over time I've had Diff Rebuilt, T5 replaced, only the second clutch, couple of sets of brakes and a couple of sets of tyres.

Had it serviced last week, for 300,000 all they could find was a slight leak at the headgasket - external not internal (I've known about that one for some time now) slight leak on the power steering rack, rear main seal and diff gasket.

Still got a few things planned for it but I only do them when they need doing.

What I was thinking. Unless he's changed every part of the car (which I highly doubt), there will still be parts of the car that have done 205,000kms. Therefore it is still a 205,000km car, not a 600km car. I've replaced a LOT in my car, but the fact still remains... it's a 270,000km car.

I would think it's only illegal if you went to sell the car and you tried to pass it off as a brand new car with 600Kms on the clock - of course you would be a bit suspicious if you did come across something like that but as you have said, if the motor has been rebuilt it would be nice to record the new service history.

ea wagon ( early 88 build) 387,000 km. Still going strong.

I caught a taxi to work this morning. BA sedan with 850,000 km.
It had a few rattles over the speed humps, but was it was still impressive for a car that has covered that distance.

Ummmm Well I have just about replaced every part in the car (Not front or rear sway bars as they are already the biggest), right down to NEW trailing arms upper and lower and a NEW tail shaft as well as the simple things like rotors ,struts , link Bush's , D Bush's , engine , gearbox mounts lower , upper ball joints and outer tie rod ends.... if ya get a car and going to keep it Don't stuff around and do things by half and end up fixing it all the time like all the other people...
at the price I get my stuff for I never ever put in 2nd hand parts.

The new motor is on my engine stand and my gearbox rebuild kit is sitting on the bench next to my new flywheel and clutch.
as I have 760km on it right now and the new motor is not going in for a few more weeks then the odo will show more kms on the clock then what it has.

Most people look at the odo when they buy a car ... so they should ... as you want to know what the Running Gear has got on it ..... The Body of the car can be fixed at a panel shop to look like it is new .

EL Fairmont with 304,000 kms. Just replaced the head gasket on it last week and did some porting work to the head.

About as powerful as my old BA was, but nowhere near as smooth.

I know where there is a CFI EA that has just been sitting around for the last 5 years and it seems to be about every 5 - 8 years it gets driven
I think it has about 85K on the clock. I will see if I can get pics of it .
