Gran Turismo 5 won't be home for Christmas?

by Jeff Glucker (RSS feed) on Oct 21st 2010 at 10:58AM

Gran Turismo 5 continues to tantalize while enraging keeping us waiting with bated breath, for that one day when we can place the disc into our Playstation 3. The game was supposed to be released on November 2nd, but an announcement on the US Playstation blog said it was pushed back... again. The only clue to the new release date was that it would be available this holiday season. What does that mean exactly? Apparently it means that you will have to shake off your hangover and pick up a copy of the game on New Years Day... or Eve... or the day after New Years Day. Honestly, we're not entirely sure and we don't think Polyphony Digital is either.

Best Buy, Gamestop and Amazon.com have updated their respective pre-order pages to reflect a new release date. Amazon.com lists 12/31/10, Gamestop has 01/01/11 and Best Buy shows a date of 01/02/11. For some reason, Target believes the game will be available on November 1st, which is awfully hopeful. Wal-Mart has apparently given up listing a release date, which may be the wisest move of all. Thanks for the tip, Billfred!

Hopeless. A lot of people bought a PS3 for this game. The next console will be out before the game and we'll all have to go buy a new one getting stitched on price along the way

And these publishers wonder why piracy is such a big thing.

They deserve to be victims of it.

Had a go at F1 2010 at my local EB games, not a bad looking game but couldn't justify the $110 price tag of a game that won't last long with me.

Next investment is a twin cockpit setup for my 2 360's to play Forza with my Son.

The trick is to stiffen up the anti roll bars to about 6\5 and soften the suspension to about 4/5. Adjust for personal taste but it also helps to have the rear wing about 2-3 settings below the fron setting. Its like the car model is very aero and pitch sensitive.

If youre burning through tyres too quick, drop the camber on the rear down.

I wasn't aware you could do such set-up options in F1 2010?

Well after hearing the news of it being pushed back I cancelled my playasia pre order. However their site now states december (and I ordered the U.S version) so I re did it. For those interested you can get the game from PA UPS posted for $82au. Or if you are really cheap lol, you could just get air economy for $3.50 making the total for the game $68.

lots of details, suggesting games were stolen from the bluray production factory.

Getting GT now solely because of this car (ok, maybe also because I have finished all the other 4 games too! :P) That looks wicked! Need an updated PS3 first I think...

I was told today that the reason it got delayed was because of the new firmwaer update and the game needs the patch installed to it to make it work. such a simple fix

As much as everyone is annoyed of the constant delay's, I'm tipping once the game is out and everyone's had a crack, most of that anger will disappear. We've seen other games this year released that step up to new levels, with new elements to the game, harder aspects to simple things than previous versions, and higher levels of interaction. I don't think this will be any different. I reckon some cars and tracks and in particular the licensing will cause many controller to be thrown lol

It'll be a massive success, with the addition of top gear tracks, karts, plus all the many 100's of cars and tracks it will be used the world over much more so than the earlier versions

Yeah, its going to be awesome thats for sure, I'm buying a new TV purely for this game, I love my old Panasonic 100hz Progressive scan 76cm CRT but its just not going to cut the mustard when this comes out, Whats a good 40-42" LCD for under $1000???

Its always set the benchmark, I don't think it'll be any different this time. People just get frustrated with the wait/delays but its the price we pay for realism. That in car rain footage is amazing and will be worth the wait.

Only other thing I'm always a little disappointed with is the lack of new cars. The 'new' cars in GT are always two or three years old, i.e this time it'll be '08 models in a late 2010 early 2011 release. I'm only talking about road cars here, I don't care too much about the race cars.
Its not a deal breaker though and again, its the price we pay for having cars as detailed as they are.
