Not really. You may not admit it but in every post about this time of month you belt your horn about how everyone HAS TO buy a Falcon or Commodore and everything else is garbage.

The dribble coming out of your head and onto your keyboard is garbage. Seriously just shut up. Keep your blind eye to your cars and deal with the downward trend.

Simple perception of everyones (being people who don't frequent car forums and actually buy cars) thinking, not just people here.

Falcon = Taxi
Commodore = Bogan Mobile

Precisely.

And come 2016 you can put a line through those sales. To me a real story plays out in these numbers:

Mondeo = 172
Falcon (Sedan) = 1227
Total Large RWD platform (including Ute/Terry) = 3224

Based on those numbers I know I can't completely reconcile the logic for putting a line through them in favour of the mid-size brigade.

Those Mondeo numbers have got to be a major concern? This is the vehicle with all the gadgets & 'European' status behind it and all with the Falcon being treated like the unloved orphan child.

How many Modeos are sold worldwide? Likewise how many Mazda3/I30/you name it are sold globally??

A low volume/low margn (no margin) car in a small market does not make any sense (except to some people on this forum)

Just because aussie buy imported stuff doesn't make them less aussie compared to someone that does.
Anyone would think they are spending your money. No one cares what you spend your coin on so why do you care what others do with theirs.
I don't agree with forcing people to buy anything in particular, but I do somewhat disagree with not buying Australian. Australians are normally proud of the fact that They/we are Australian and therefore are proud of Australian stuff be that the Kangaroos winning the Rugby League World Cup to our very own Falcon's roaming the streets, so to an extent you are less proud of being Australian if you settle for or buy an imported anything.
But hey that is my view not everybody's, and people who won't buy a Falcon or Commodore because it is a bogan car only serve to prove that theory

I disagree to some extent.
You can't compare rugby to car sales.
A car is generally seen as an important purchase, usually the second highest costing asset one would buy. Most (including myself) take this purchase seriously. I look at what I want, what is on offer then begin to narrow it down.
Money is becoming tighter these days so many people are taking their car purchases a lot more seriously, head ruling over heart.
No point in buying something just because it is made here when it isn't the best available option you have.

But how many Mondeo's are being sold into the same small market? At the current rate of decline month to month from 353 --> 172 --> ??? (next month). Focus & Fiesta are hardly lighting up the sales charts either. If the falcon platform as a whole is considered 'low volume' then what would you class Mondeo/Fiesta volumes as in Australia...'insignificant volume'?. Segmentation is squeezing all makers...with everyone getting smaller slices of the pie and is flowing down the line to the dealers. Great for consumers in the short term....but where will it end long term? Post 2016 will show us.

In any case what you say is all relative, and only relevant in the last 10yrs due to the reasons people have already eluded to earlier (the suits we've employed that implemented policies for the betterment of other countries industries). The reason there is no margin on the locally produced cars anymore is all due to market segmentation driven by policy where the outcome creates a lot of other richer countries.

The only sensible decision that any manufacturers can conclude (in this country) is to find a way to sack all of the Aussie workers (because who really cares right?), get the hell out of this over governed self imploding country and set up in one of the countries that our government makes policies for and actually supports (take your pick...Thailand/Japan/China/USA/Germany/France....).

Will be a crying shame that we'll ultimately begin losing the skill, knowledge & know-how that comes from the backbone of manufacturing.

g.

You missed my point - not that hard for Ford to take 200 mondeos from the factory that makes lots of them and stick them on a ship and deliver them here...same way BMW/Merc etc sedn them over.

Very hard to keep a factory open that builds so few cars to sell in only one market with no profit (probably a loss).

Bigger question is: would Mondeo & Focus sell better if they had a different badge on them?? My guess is yes. I think the dealers have a lot to answer for and the smell of death around the Falcon does not help the mood on the showroom.

That's it, selling. 200 mondeos is probably better for fords balance sheets than selling 1200 falcons... Don't forget, ford is the master of bean counting, they will have it worked out to the last 10c and it's obviously not in falcons favour.

Yep, it's a nice change indeed.
Ford are kidding themselves if they think their sales in Australia are going to rise after 2016. The only way they will be going is down.

Thats a massive drop for parts and servicing. Expect more dealers to close.

It has alot to do with Vfacts. You bag people for buying imports calling them 'fools'.

I'd hazard a guess that if these same 'buzz boxes' were made here, the people buying them would suddenly not be 'fools'.

Would I buy those cars? NO. But those companies must be doing something right for so many 'fools' to buy their cars. I wish we had so many 'fools' buying Falcons and Territories.

That said, a better result for Falcon and Territory in Nov is positive.
