I don't know, do you think that all of the GT's and GTHO's that are pulling big dollars now have never been in any strife in their previous life?

Do you think that Eric Bana’s car will be worth anything if it was rebuilt into a pearl even if it was a monster in 30 years time? I think that if it was rebuilt to be sold now, you might be bidding against the likes of Jay Lenno and co for it now anyway.

Everybody is down on Mr Jonic's and his alleged "suferoo" because he is asking big dollars for a car that may have an iconic history that at least at this stage, can't substantiated and rightly so, but in thirty years time, the winner of the DJR 320 car (if they keep it and garage it and don't molest it), will be here telling people that aren't even born yet that this was in fact owned by the great man himself, and there will be doubters. His asking price will start from $500,000 and I bet that there will be some members here defending the heritage and value of this car then as well!

For me, a great prize and definitely a keeper!

And maybe just a thought that could put into perspective, what would be worth more in years to come???
-a second hand FG GS won in a Coke competition
or
-DJ's own second hand DJR 320 won in a coke competition

Amazes me that anyone could have a negative thing at all to say about this.

Who cares if Dick gets anything for his car (im sure he would), That it had an accident previously (its a prize that cost you a bottle of coke : , sell it if you are above a repaired car, sure it will still be worth more than most of our cars in the furure regardless)

I want it.

This thread makes me want to bang my head against a wall....

How about we all agree to leave the negative posts behind, including commenting on same, they're behind us. We're all grown up here, we're past all the drama, and all enter to get into this competition to have a forum enthusiast/member take possession of this arguably iconic vehicle instead of some twit that just wants to make a buck

Rob, there are many enthusiasts here that appreciate you taking the time to post this up for us Thank you..

Herrod would be great name plate to have I can only imagine the amount of attention by just having those plates.
However what I have thought is available and would complement the car highly. If I didn't win then no one will know and I'm happy to keep it as little secret

As an example to back my previous post - DJRUNV :

I think the posts calling into question the awesomeness of this promotion are well justified, although some have been a little extreme.

The reality is, this compeition is just a bit strange. Coke are giving away a second hand car once owned by a moderately famous racing car driver - thats been in an accident. As for its future value, thats all speculation. There will be a group of people who consider it nothing more than a molested XR8 Falcon. My money would be on the new FPV GS to appreciate more in the long run, being a limited factory release. The DJR will appeal to a smaller group of people - ie racing fans over a certain age who can remember who Dick Johnson is.

Having said all that, I can see the appeal of the car to most here on this forum, but to the average punter? Thats why I think its strange, from a marketing point of view this competition is targeting a very narrow audience - which should make it easier to win in theory, bonus!

And another thing - this is a forum for sharing information, AND airing opinions - its all the different ones that make it interesting to read. I just read all 6 pages of this thread simply because of that fact. Moderators here take their job too seriously, I think unless someone has posted something truely offensive or inappropriate, it should be left up for everyone to read.

You lost me about there...:togo: Each to there own, but if you don't value the car, or the man, then what value is your opinion in this thread?

Coke have no association with the FPV GS or Ford for that matter. They sponsor DJR, hence are offering Dicks' very own DJR vehicle, which obviously has to be used, to be owned by him.

Dont get me wrong, I value the car and the man, and no disrespect was intended towards Dick Johnson. The term moderately famous may seem a little harsh but its just the way it is when you consider the mainstream appeal (or lack of) of Group A V8 racing.
Personally I think it would be a fantastic car to win, but I was just looking at it from a broader perspective.

Its good job you reminded me because I had forgotten about that.

When a person decides to start a thread they do so with an intended purpose. Natural conversations take detours; one thing can lead to another in nearly a seamless transition, but on forums that has a multiplier attached to it because they are not one on one communication.

As such one of the jobs of moderators is to read what the original author has said and try best we can to make sure the following conversation is roughly aligned to the thread starters intentions as we read it.

For example someone commenting about moderation style or content would have no place in such a thread. Such a comment might lead to others to take that instance and run with it and all of a sudden the poor old moderator has a cleanup job and the entire thread is miles off track. The simplest of comments like, "who is Dick Johnson" could stir up a huge backlash on a forum like this, one that would lead to many seconds of corrective action.

Protecting the integrity of the thread is usually always on the side of the thread author. It’s the privilege afforded to them for having the guts to stand up in front on this audience to say something. Doesn't give them immunity to being challenged or questioned so long as it’s respectful but the discussion should always be on point. Retrospect dialogue on a threads direction and its suitability does nothing to enhance its quality or future direction.

Rob if you have anything more in the way of details to add would you mind contacting a mod or admin member who can add those to this thread on your behalf.

Regards
Ian

Well said Ian, keeping the threads on topic can mean editing negative posts, not always due to stopping others from an opinion, more so preventing the inevitable tangent that follows.
