I manage a automotive repair business with 8 mechanics, one office girl, and a 17yo "slaparound". i hate it and want to get back on the tools. i'm a qualified automotive engineer but would rather work as a mechanic on the frontline with the troops

Cheers,
Norm

You are supposed to jazz it up a little bit.
Diagnostic raidographer sounds better.

I work for a large (one of the worlds largest) computer vendors in the world. It's great, I haven't used a Microsoft product since 2001, I deal with typically qualified systems administrators so no real brain dead end users - though it does happen. I manage systems support for high end customers, with a focus on large scale systems (AUD$500,000 plus) and Storage Area Networks. Also deliver premptive support (fix it before it fails stuff) to these customers and proactive support (deliver support before it becomes an issue).

It isn't too bad work - but the pay is crap (compared to my co-workers doing the same job), and the oncall (2 weeks in a month) sucks, but the pay for that is good.

I work for one of the large internationall mining companies, in Perth. I've done several jobs here, but at the moment I am a 'Server Administrator', looking after 300+ servers, across WA and several international sites. Also dabble in Exchange and various other systems. About to start playing with HP OpenView and several other monitoring tools.

My employer's been kind enough to send me to Salt Lake City twice and to London once. It's hard to go back to Economy on those occasions that I travel less than 3 hours or pay for my own ticket :( I also get to go to the lovely NW on occasion, which I just love except at this time of the year, cos it's damned hot!

Love my job (a lot more than the last role, people management sucks) and work with a great team that basically manage ourselves.

Lightning....

You can get the boot, but you gotta be doing some bad things to get the boot. Usually the sack comes with Jail Time.

I'm keen for a career change. Something other than what I'm doing now.
