Ford to start reproducing AU Falcon

This was attempted a few years ago with the XA-XB-XC Coupes, heaps of 'interest' and 'yeah lets go for it' from loads of people....

A coupe was located and offered to the builder (Dynacorn) for 'copying', when the costing came back the majority of the interested parties evaporated overnight....I can't remember the exact details but Dynacorn needed to cover the tooling by taking guaranteed orders (deposits) for something like 150 to 200 units, i think it was about $30k+ per unit less freight, and that was before you got into the ADR side of things.....so yeah, the interested

Unlike the US (UK/EU) we don't have no where near the numbers for exercises such as this to make it cost effective, and did someone mention ADR......

The Dynacorn shells can't be registered here. Something to do with the date of manufacture means it has to comply with emmision standards from the day of manufacture. Crash standards too?

Rules out any new shells ever going into production here.

I’d hope that eventually a category of vehicle might be created, to allow certain permutations of “original” models some degree of road legality. They’re never going to be cheap cars, but wealthy enthusiast vehicles. If it can happen with all the Cobra style cars - surely a JG33 spec build should be allowable?

The problem with something like a hardtop, is that the shell is only half the battle.
With something like a Mustang, there are enough reproduction parts available to build a complete car, especially in the US.

And cost wise, If you could afford to drop $30k on only the bare shell, then you can afford to go out and buy an existing car.

The recent AU Falcon "movement" is pretty funny. Swear it all started with that drift video of the two AUs smashin the track

Is the TE bonnet the same as the fairmont ? I assume the grille and bumper are available as glass copies ? I ask because that makes an AU almost pretty...

And I have to admit I've been warming to the au these last few months with all the problems the el has been handing me.

I'll tell you an AU story. It was 2002 or 2003 and I was working in Western Vic, somewhere west of Casterton iirc. Hilly country with trees and open farmland. I was plodding along in my landcruiser and was overtaken by 2 AU XR6s going at full song through all the corners. A blue one and a green one, they seemed to be racing each other, or keeping close. Either they were Ford guys testing them, or locals who really knew the road. They were moving out! The cars were handling the twisty road and open stretches beautifully. I could hear them miles after they passed me, and it was a bit like being in a TV ad for the sports model of the Falcon lineup.

The memory stands out amongst a NSW Highway Patrol XR6 turbo giving chase, a VE Valiant (in metro Perth!) and a VS ute on NT unrestricted roads as some of the best high speed driving I've ever seen in this country.

The local dealer there had a red runout AUIII wagon which really appealed to me, all brand spanking new. Horsham at the time had a runout auto AUIII XR8 in blueprint. I foolishly kept saving for the house.

There are AU IVs being tested at night, I saw one recently and it's definitely a prototype
because it has a coat hanger aerial and the engine had the distinct rattle of a diesel,
blue smoke and lots of clack, clack, clack clack.....

Was the coat hanger aerial shaped into the outline of Australia? The ones with the Australia shaped aerials have 100% local content.

Would that be the backpacker special edition, but only found in the rare wagon form.

Might do. A limited slip 9 inch should fit underneath. It wouldnt be going offroad, anyway.
