Me too, I could use a break. If we can plot everyones location on a map, perhaps we can pick some place central.

CASPER would love you to come to...thanks for keeping the finger off the lock.

A very informative thread and guess what guys no politics.
OK Chaps, back from another urgent assignment....
Now, this dinner. Trouble is, I am in Adelaide and you guys are far flung around this beautiful land from central Oz to QLD. I love prawns, moreton bay bugs, yabbies, merlot, chenin blanc, vodka and whuskey and more.... so I qualify guys! To arrange this dinner will be a logistic headache, but it is possible....

I think that the distance issue will make it a bit of a challenge. I said earlier that Clare was a nice place, I just saw a advertisement for the Clare gourmet weekend..... Not sure when it is, but that might be a good excuse to travel. Why not throw the door open to anyone that wants to come along. The Clare Valley is a beautiful place and no matter what direction you come from it is a nice drive. BUT, it is a long way for the QLD punters. On a map of OZ, Bourke in NSW looks like a fairly central location. But I have no idea what Bourke has to offer????

I agree Clare is a nice spot. Wine doesn't get much better than from that region. But its still a long run for MO. Anyone got a Beechcraft Baron or a Piper Seneca? Get you down here in a flash.

Default Rail...

Charles and 4.9, another one of lifes little mysterys that elude me is the rail situation and the economics of transportingfreight. Now, regardless of the politics (that OK casper?) how is it that we havelet our rail system run down to be non existant? We recently put a line in from Adelaide to Darwin with concrete sleepers and welded rails via some of the hottest part of our land, so technology should not be an issue.

And I have been informed that the friction of steel on steel is seven times less than rubber on black stuff, so it should be cheaper to cart the same load over a given distance.

And in this day and age of containers to crane on and off seems to make sense so therfore truckies would still be requird to shift them from terminals to drop off points. You could even rail the whole truck and load and give the driver a rest...

The only difference I can see is trucks would not be on the road and using more fuel than is nessessary.

Does this not make economic sense to put some long term investment in a decent rail system?
Cheers - thinking Eric

As I've posted on another forum I'm on, if this small rate rise is pushing you to the wall then you have overextended yourself. You should always plan for rises, when I work on "how much can I pay for a mortgage" then I usually work on 8% (and I did this about 3 years ago). We've also worked our finances that the payments are paid from my wage, and my wage alone, which leaves my husband's wage to pay for things like upgrades to my car, his car, enjoying life.

That all works well till you loose one wage ;) This maybe happening to my Mrs. We both work for a govt dept and nothing is set in concrete. At this stage she has no work after Feb 07. Knowing them though, you'll find she'll be still working there in 2010.

Dubbo sounds OK to me. I have hauled the datto there a few times. Thats where the datsun guys hold their nationals every couple of years.....Perhaps all the interested parties could PM me and share their email address's and we could create a mailing list. The next thing is a date???

We also have passive income which next year will replace one of our wages totally and the other wage either late next year or early the year after, and will continue to build.

I've been a contractor since 92, I've never been without work except for when I've been travelling. I got a full-time job late last year.

Don't want to be doing the 40/40/40 (working 40 hours a week, for 40 years to retire on 40% of your previous wage).

How does putting the interest rate up stop inflation? This economic reasoning is a joke. All it does is make it harder for the average person to make ends meet!

How many politicians know hard it is to make ends meet when they get tax payer funded cars and petrol, and 16% (from memory) superannuation?

Now that's banana's!

Stops you spending your excess money on frivlouse(sp) things like cars and houses and groceries.

The interest on the mortgage goes up and takes your excess money thereby slowing the economic growth and stunting inflation.

Now if that didn't clear it up read some of the more knowledgable posts here.
