A friend bought a Lexcen because "The Toyota was better than a Holden." All good until he started looking at the parts.

Were Telstar's made in the Homebush plant alongside the Laser?
The key thing with the Mazda involvement during those years was the injection of knowledge from Japan into the Australian Ford factories, improving efficiency and quality.

I hate to think what our motor industry would have been turning out if the Japanese hadn’t got involved in the Aust market. Our local offerings were pretty ordinary in comparison as far as finish, reliability and basic “luxuries”as in heaters, radios and carpet were concerned.

coming home from the shops today, an rx7 pulled out from the smash repairers and I was driving behind it. It was an early one, so fb or something, but looked very much like an 80's bathurst race replica. So big flares, big spoiler on the rear, painted white with blue stripes and had a drop tank in the back. Surprisingly it wasn't loud, made no turbo sounds so it might still have been a non turbo 12a rotary. Clearly someone has thrown a lot of money into it to get it to where its at. Still a cool car though.

Telstars were made in Broadmeadows alongside the Falcon, it didn’t last long though (was it 7 or so years ?), and all of the investment including the 4 cylinder Engine plant (plant 5 Geelong), eventually went down the drain.

Looks to be a GTV which I personally haven't spotted in a long while.
Complete with prayer flags.

Today I saw a nice Holden ute. On the way back I stopped for a better look. Red, base model, simple steel rims, very clean, four horizontal bars to the grille, what I thought would be a VN or VP ute ... but from Wiki I learnt that it's called a VG. Raised roof line - for the Akubra hats? It was in really nice condition; looked great. Full Vic reg, B/W plates.

"The VG shared the frontal appearance of the VN Commodore but its 2-door cabin featured a raised roofline, marketed as able to accommodate the Akubra hat favoured by many "bushies". (Wikipedia)

Something i saw a couple days back was a vp ss. Not a hsv vn ss, a holden vp ss. It was parked beside a vk hdt, however, its hard to tell if the vk was a fake blue meanie or real. Pretty sure the vp ss was real because why would you fake one?

off topic....Liked Gricey but my favourite to follow was Big Rev Kev in the old Camaro. Geeze he caused some accidents back in the day.
on topic... spotted a first gen Hyundai Excel. Tired, dirty and well worn but still running on full reg. Thought most ended up in the Excel racing class bringing us back to motor racing.

Every other 1980s/1970s Jag I've touched had a 350 in it Or they were pilfered for the IFS setup on them to be used in other cars. I really dislike VAG and I'm going to put British cars up there with them for **** designs, for such an engineering powerhouse, the **** that came out of the UK with four wheels is a disgrace |

For design, they have greatness and are visionary - think original XK engines, original Range Rover concept, E-Type, the Land Rover postwar, the P6, Sir Alec Issigonis' original mini; hell even the Spitfire, the Lusitania & Mauretania, the steam engine, the whole industrial revolution...
It's the implementation of their designs since about 1970 however...
