Shit that sucks. i pretty much got my p plate hidden behind the blue tint. yes i know it's stupid so it's my own fault if i get done. that's a bit of tuff luck there mate.

its being 'appealed' at the moment by some dudes at vic roads. the silly policeman wrote on the fine "faliure to display p-plates" when i quite clearly had them on.

and i said to the vic roads appeals guy that im okay paying the fine, next time i know to carry a ruler other measuring devices that i cant think of right now to put my p-plate up, but being taken off the road from demerit points? gimme a break.

i dont think it is a bad idea, but from my experience with some of the traffic cops here in adelaide, can we have a representative that knows something about cars in general.
I had one traffic cop try and defect my tickford because the red rocker cover wasnt standard, of course what would they know here in adelaide they drive commodores....

apparently they can defect a brand new car when it drives off the showroom floor? heard this more than once, but no-one ever follows it up with exactly what they can defect on a brand new stock car.....

i have read this thread from start to finish, and firstly, the question, should cops be allowed to be members, thats just stupid.....of course they can. anyone can join this site...

if they came on here, concealed their occupation, and used what we say on here to get us for whatever, then thats a sad thing to do, but we cant really stop it....

i think if you wanted to, something could be put in the terms and conditions that no government officials etc are welcome in an official capacity etc etc to stop that kind of thing hapening.

to they guy that said we aren't important enough for cops to worry about, i think he is onto a good point there. we may be a rather large club, but i dont think they care to much. Thats not to say they wouldnt be more than happy to pull us over on a cruise and hand out tickets like flyers!

but to assume that they'd be interested in helping us to much is a tad ambitious...of course some cops would be more than happy...but i doubt it'd be a majority.

to those members that have said, if you do something wrong you deserve to be punished, i do agree, to an extent. but it goes back to what i first said about a brand new car being defected....a large number of members on this site have modified cars, and although they may well be able to obtain a RWC, i have no doubt that a cop would have little trouble defecting them for something...

so if a cop wants to join ff as a member, like someone said, its not worthy of a post. they can do what they want, they are just another user....

we can always cover our plates in photos etc, and then they cant prove that it was in fact me doing whatever in whatever photo.....the fact that the car looks the same means extremely little when it all comes down to it, and i dont think my birth certificate says "madwob" on it, so good luck to em

feel free to criticise any of what i said :

There is no way you can keep police from reading this forum, so why get fired up over something you can’t change.
I don’t think the Police would be interested in having a member here in an “official capacity” with the forum, why because I think they have better things to do, but that’s my opinion.
Even if the Police did have an “official interest” in the forum and were recording member’s details or whatever, why would they make it public knowledge they were doing so? They could be doing it now on AFF and on the FF website and you wouldn’t even know.

If people are Police officers they should have the right to join the forum even if they aren’t car enthusiasts, if they are car enthusiasts as well than that is even better. Everyone has the right to join. If the owners / admins of this forum took that right away, then what kind of example would they be setting?

How would some of you like it if someone said for example “oh sorry you can’t join the forum, you work in the IT industry and may possess the knowledge and be able to hack / shut down the website” or “oh sorry you can join the forum, you work in the Insurance industry and are gathering information about our cars to make any future claim we make void.”… As stupid as they sound, that is the stance that some people suggested.

ANYONE should be welcome as a member regardless of profession.

No one said anything about policing the forums, I wouldn’t even have a problem if they were here on an “official capacity” I have nothing to hide, my vehicle is 100% roadworthy and any and all mods are legit. I would welcome the input regarding laws about mods, road rules and traffic offences or whatever else they had to say.

I'm sure he's just stirring Officer M.D.
If the shift scheduling was better at SAPOL I'd love a career change but it's to hard for me to have a rotating shift, especially for a job that requires you to be on the ball every minute of the day.

IMO, I dont see the need for an 'offical presensce' on the site. They, like most probably want to forget about work after hours. If cops like FORDS, V8's whatever and they get on the site for a read, its all good. They may even be better cops for it and show a bit more empathy or understanding when dealing with other car enthusiasts on the road.I bought my XR8 of a GD's copper so there you go, there are some good one's / FORD fans out there.

Through life you meet good people and some bad people.
There are doctors who are good people, there are doctors who are bad people. It is the same no matter where you look.
Police are the same, some are quite reasonable good people, some are not.
I used to work in the NSW prison system, the same goes for Custodial officers and for offenders some are good and some are bad. Police are not bad just because they are police. I have known some petrol head police, infact my first 351 powered XD was owned by a police officer before I bought it.

I voted "yes".. Despite still being on my "P'"s and hazzeled by cops every saturday night i still have respect for them, simply because when SH#T hits the fan the first number we dial is 000... so we cant bag them when we do something wrong then expect them to help us when we all of a sudden need them..

I say bring it on - Love a man in uniform :

But seriously I don't think this should even be an issue so therefore I didn't vote. If they want to join they will join and if they want to talk about police type stuff than they will but it should be up to the individual and I doubt very much whether you would ever get anyone offering to be an official presence.

Geez I know when I am away from work – work is the last thing I care to talk about.

Have known several cops as customers of my old business ( no, not a donut shop...) and they all seemed quick to put a shirt on over the uniform once off duty. Was a sad statement to see. I feel being a decent copper is hard enough without having to be one still out of hours. Especially with the stigma speed cameras give them. Let them join as normal members, and leave the forums a neutral zone.

On the odd occasion our club has in the past, let the local law inforcement know, that we have been planning to travel through their townships on 'XX day'
This has been to cover our own backs, so as no on duty cop decides to follow our convoy, and intimidate us. We have never been harassed, but always thanked for the prior phone call.

As long as we follow club rules and be respectful, and not forgetting that we have 'club stickers' on some of the cars involved, there should be no problem from either side.

As for a bit of knowledge from off duty cops on ff's, it would be most welcome.

I agree. If they are ford enthusiasts in their own time then that’s fine obviously everyone is welcome on the forums and entitled to their own views. I think its best not to have them on here in an official capacity for both their sake and ours.

I can see an example of a police officer making a comment in a post or offering an opinion on a thread trying to be helpful and then someone getting in trouble over a modification or something similar and quoting the police officers comments and attempting to use that as a defense.
I would hate to think people were having comments made on the forums about their rides used against them when / if they are pulled over and recognized from the forum.

I have personally been targeted by a few different police officers who were out just to make life difficult for me, despite me doing the right thing but perhaps that is a story for a different time.

Leave it up to them. Some may be interested in sharing their knowledge and opinion, others may just be another Ford fan. Don't 'force' them to reveal their occupation, if they want to they will.

The only people who will complain with this is those who have something to hide, and besides, its only the Internet.
