Here you go adding a poll just when I wanted to close it
Just his usual Friday dig at everyone else and what they want to drive just to cause a reaction. By the way, I drive an old XG ute so I REALLY care what people think of me. Bloody hell. Must be very vain to worry what others think about you all the time. THESE THREADS GIVE ME THE POTATOES!!!!

Spice of life, each to their own, what ever floats your boat. I think some take these threads a little too seriously |

Im not saying its right but its what happens.. Great idea for a poll but the audience is mostly people who drive old cars (Ford/GMH people), the poll should be conducted at a large workplace or sporting venue with a good cross-sectional mix of the population. I suspect the responses will horrify us. Last edited by HULK_I6T; 12-09-2014 at 05:53 PM. |

If a car makes you happy, and suits your needs then you shouldn't need to worry about what other judgmental and shallow people think, regardless of what car you drive.

Im not looking for approval from anyone. I just spent a motza on a FMIC/Intake. Can ppl see them. Not likely, yeah i care what ppl think. As for wheels i can appreciate them sitting still. How many Hulk Friday threads have been closed, some are good but when you FORCE your opinion on people they get ****.

I see heaps of new cars around. AE86, wrx, i30, corolla's. Sorry, they look like plebs to me, wouldn't be seen dead in their ***** box. And the new euro trash gets old pretty quickly.

But It's more by rare exception that old cars are anything special. Most old cars aren't show quality or unique. Non car aficionados will associate someone driving an old car as not being able to afford a new car, hence the status in society from driving expensive cars and also that bottomfeeder perception. It's not right but let's just accept that's how society thinks Last edited by HULK_I6T; 12-09-2014 at 07:14 PM. |

Though no one actually knows, and I don't believe anyone here cares. I LOVE old cars. The bigger the bucket the better. Interesting, squeaky, character!!! Bit like you Hulk, and I'm actually being complimentary when I say that. If we were all conformists it'd get kinda boring.

Yep, no one likes Old Euros. Except all the owners and members on their own forum. You do know pretty much every car maker has enthusiasts forums. Go on the Toyota forum and see how many people are so excited over their Camrys and Corollas. Hulk, I think you have to stop worrying so much about what people think of you. Some may think the way you describe in this thread, but they all don't. You cannot say that someone in a new BMW hates all old cars just because one time, one of your mates once said he hates old cars. That means SFA about what anyone else thinks. I like Fridays now. Can't wait to see what next Friday brings, it's always a little entertainment. Last edited by Ben73; 12-09-2014 at 10:21 PM. |

bingo.
if these threads were started by a different person, the responses would be totally different as well. too many people on here 'play the man, not the ball'. another difficult to grasp concept... participation is voluntary! if you don't like the way a certain member thinks or posts, then go click somewhere else so. like Hulk says, lighten up and enjoy the weekend. |

I can say, that I have experienced first hand, what Hulk is saying.
More than one person, has suggested that I should scrap all my 'old' cars, and then I'd have enough money to buy a new one. Let me tell you, nothing gets my veins pulsing more, than when someone suggests that to me. Luckily I'm a gentleman, who can hold my tongue. Instead, I attempt to educate the person on why I enjoy the older cars - the smells, the sounds, the interaction. Heck, even my own family doesn't really understand - not really. More that it's 'tolerated'. My cousins and relatives are mostly the same - old cars are bad, and you're down a level in society, if you can't afford a new one. I'm trying to educate one of my cousins at the moment - I'm helping him with a small project, tidying up an E-series Fairmont as his first 'real' car. Frankly, I never thought it would be such a chore, trying to show someone that sometimes older, can actually be better. For the majority of the populace, YES, I would agree with Hulk. The majority of people driving older cars everyday, are doing so out of necessity - lack of money and soforth. This is what drives the demand for such crap quality replacement parts for these cars. note: I'm talking mostly E-series, AU falcons and other similar era makes/models. The last of the x-series are now almost finished coming out of that glut, but unfortunately the supply of crap quality parts - (suspension components and soforth) is still plentiful.

No, it's not just us. I know plenty of people all around the world who feel the same.
Then again I've met people who did look down their noses at me when I drove a 1979 Falcon. They still looked down their noses at me when I bought the BA, because it was just a "glorified taxi" and nothing to be proud of. It's one of the many reasons we're no longer friends. I know someone on another forum, from Finland, who goes out of his way to find cheap older cars, tidy them up a little, live with them for a few months or so, and then moves them on. More for fun than profit. By the time they leave him he's put everything back to bog stock, period correct and absolutely spotless. He doesn't fall in love with them for the most part, but enjoys the driving experience in a variety of vehicles, and it gives him fodder for his job as an automotive journalist. http://hooniverse.com/2012/10/02/fin...erland-part-1/ I have two more Euro friends who are, or have just finished, rebuilding 1980's BMWs. Someone else bought a Zastava 101 on a spur of the moment idea.. It will compliment his Donkervoort, the V12 850 BMW in his garage, and which was recently taken for a lap of the Nurburgring (thats now passed 60,000 Youtube views...) on our annual forum roadtrip/meet weekend. http://youtu.be/nx3XwYplfpI There are plenty of us out there, you just need to know where to look....

I like old cars but for me as a daily not practical. I love my aging BA, its a great car and I have just about rebuilt the thing in the last 5 years. I just bought a ZL Fairlane, Misses hates it, kids don't like it (get that from MUM I think) and I think its great!!! I just wanted an old car I could afford and do up over time and yet still take it out every now and again and enjoy....

If I see someone driving an immaculate 30 year old 635csi I don't think wow, he can't even afford a newer BMW, I think this guy likes cars. Respect.
I don't think OP really likes cars |
