Look, I know a drive a smog making bus but I would not be caught dead in a Mazda 3.

They're the "flavour of the moment" and everyone must have one. I personally think its ugly and not worth the hype it generates. And before anyone asks no I have not driven one (been a passenger) and have no intention to.

These small cars are getting prettier with each model cycle, I'm looking forward to seeing the MPS.

IMO, Mazda has to make up its mind with mazda 3, it obviously feels that the car should be
priced much higher than a bargain $20,000 but in order to get those impressive sales figures,
Mazda has to offer attractive pricing on well equipped Neo model, you can't have it both ways..

You might have solved the mystery of the decline in Falcon sales?
If only you'd told them years ago it's no good having an XT the same shape as a GT-P they wouldn't be stopping local manufacture.

I don't mind the new Mazda, but would take this over that when it arrives, especially the ST.

I don't think I've gone through a thread on here before and seen this many deleted posts in the first two pages.
And it's just a post about a Mazda 3? Can't see the point in the argument personally.

I reckon it looks really nice, front end is a little bit bulky though.

Much prefer the ford above.

I noticed the new 3 model is the BM series.

Doesn't BM stand for bowel movement? Or do I watch too much Family Guy.

I think it is a great looking car. When I bought the Focus the other car I considered was the MPS. The interior let it down a lot for me, and the Ford drove nicer. However, we have had our Mazda for 7 years and it has been a great car. Will definitely be looking at one of these for the wife when the time comes to move her car on.

Best part of the new Mazda 3 is that it has nothing in common with any of the Ford products.

The 2-litre makes 114kW and 200Nm of torque while the 2.5-litre version makes 138kW and 250Nm.
It is expected that Mazda's 2.2-litre SkyActiv diesel will be available in the new hatch. The clever IE LOOP power, and thus fuel saving technology, will be available in other markets but not initially in New Zealand and Australian models.

114kw and 200nm, you would think it's the 1990s... The sheep will still lap them up.

Whatever. I don't know why you mentioned Focus as I never did. To me it is just another town car designed for women. Interested as to why you took at stab at it though, on a FORD forum?! Maybe go and sing praises of this new Mazda on a Womans Weekly message board?
Both cars are still running mediocre 4 cylinder engines with similar tech we had nearly 20 years ago. Some manufacturers have moved into the 21st century with efficient turbo petrol engines making diesels redundant (hmm ecoboost).
Either way goes to show how much I take the local 6s for granted that put out decent figures and perform in the real world, when most new car buyers who flock to the entry level hatches like sheep are stuck with these under performing boat anchors every day and don't know any better.

I thought Focus and Mazda 3 were in the same category. Maybe they are not? Maybe that is why people looking to buy cars in the biggest selling market segments are not buying Falcons? Maybe the Falcon is "still running mediocre 6 cylinder engines with similar tech we had nearly 20 years ago"?

Fortunately the petrol engine designers have embraced new technology in the last few years, kudos to Ford with ecoBoost, Mazda with SkyActiv, etc. etc.

In fairness, the EB is only available in the ST. DI isnt exactly old tech in small hatchbacks though.
IMO i reckon the 2.5L should be entry level with the new Mazda 3, and at least have the 1.6 EB available in the Focus range here.

Most that buy the lowly 114kw 3 couldnt give to hoots about the power, what do we want them all in an MPS?

As for taking the I6 for granted, gee that is full of engine tech that one...

Anyway im sure the new 3 will sell by the bucket load.

smoo has succinctly highlighted the problem FoA face.
The ecoBoost may be a brilliant engine but...
A Falcon's just not a Falcon without a cast iron 6.

This will sell in huge numbers more so than the current one and ignorant people turning a blind eye to it will not make a difference. Anybody who wants to know what the interior is like should go and sit in the new Mazda 6. The materials and design feel is very close to that. It's actually quite impressive, nothing at all in it feels cheap. I drive new cars Japanese cars every day and out of the hatches the Maz 3 is the pick of the bunch. It's a lively little car.

Only a render...but wow!

The Motor Report

Quote:
But, add in the CX-5's all-wheel-drive system - believed to be compatible with the new 3 - and a new MPS model could offer a 0-100km/h time quicker than the current model's 6.1 second claim.

As long as it doesn't have that weird crease line as the current shape it's a win for me. I wouldn't buy one but at least if I'm behind one at the lights I don't get frustrated at that crease.

There hasn't been a 6MPS for a while now.
No confirmation of a new 3MPS as yet.

That above render looks awesome.
