Thought i'd dig this thread up as its on the right topic.

Headed out to whoop *** wednesday at the "Plex over here in W.A last night. Had a mate there with a bog stock BF XR8 Ute, 6spd auto. First time at the drags and managed a 14.01@100mph with a 2.1 60ft. Not bad for a complete stocker with std exhaust and paper filter and all. Still had the hard top with spoiler on aswell, running 19's on the fron with the std 17's on the rear with the SP3000's aswell.
Was very pleased with those results.

A drag strip starts to measure time when the timing light is tripped, which is 60cm past the second staging beam. You can already be doing 5km/h by then! That means you are already moving by the time the timing system starts counting away. Secondly, some strips measure the terminal speeds in the 60 feet up to the finish line, whereas others measure it for 60 feet after, hence you can get different terminal speeds.
The mags use a hitech gadget that is very accurate (despite some claims otherwise) called a v box or something or other. Anyhow, they work as soon as the vehicle starts to move, then measures g forces etc until 400m exactly and gives a terminal speed at the exact time you get to 400m. I think they use sat nav from memory.
Either way, the mags tend to be around 2 to 4 tenths slower over the quarter mile because of these differences. The final difference comes from traction - and drag strips have heaps more than the road.

That's a great time though!

Blue mate. Ran 14.5 then 14.2 then three 14.0's in a row. Yeah the 6spd auto is much quicker than the old 4spd set-up.
