I definitely agree with you in reference to the HiLux appearance. The side view, perhaps how the window line looks and the belt line below that, seems to give off a HiLux feel. But I prefer the 'softer' appearance of our utes compared to the US 'box like' utes, plus with very little difference in size between the F Trucks and this new Ranger, I guess Ford needed to make it look different.

I for one think Ford are onto a winner here. Looks fantastic. The Mazda, well that's just awful.

I think they do it because not many people notice it and car companies love to cut costs. Too bad that these are likely to be used out of city fairly often and headlights will need an upgrade. Not good enough when you are forking out 50k.

I think you'll find its a 20w globe that has been used just to put something in the hole and light up. The current Ranger has 55/60w dual filment H4 globes, no reason to think that this will change especially seeing there is only one actual globe to the headlight and not 2 seperate ones.

Very nice looking dual cab, hopefully it can take it right upto the Hilux, it's going to be hard though, but good to see Ford trying to claim some of the market share in this area.
I'd love to see this vehicle fitted out with some nicer/bigger rim's/tyre's and a 2" lift kit with ARB Deluxe Bar, snorkel.

I'd say Ford will target the other brands more so, Hilux buyers are blind. I mean who pays nearly 10k more for a duelcab SR5 than a top model rival brand when it still has a 4 speed auto, 80's tech for 55k...no thanks.

Yet buy them they will over the Rangers new engine and 6 speed.

Being Volkswagen, it also probably costs a lot more than the Ranger too, for some reason they market themselves as an upmarket brand here in Australia, much like Honda with the prices to match.

Amorak looks nice, but not as tough as new Ranger. Also I prefer the cleaner front-end styling on the Ranger, though the Amorak is by no means ugly.

It'd be interesting to see which performs the best overall.

The prices that are mooted are on par/slightly below HiLux, spec for spec.

And lets be honest, you always aim for the market leader, not the also-rans.

RANGER across the front above the grill, and those side vents are looking very Range Rover-ish.

I hate utes, but this is the best one I have seen lately.

THe car looks fantastic, but I am not a fan of the interior.

Although different, the layout of the buttons doesn't do it for me.

If they had somehow integerated the Falcon's interior layout with the Ranger's exterior, THEN that would be a vehicle worth waking up to with sticky PJs.

Unfortunately all the dual cabs run drums at the back, even the Amorak

Small cars like Fiesta/Mazda 2/Hyundai Getz etc run drums at the rear.

The Ranger looks nice, and yes they are starting to bring the design and shape in line with the Hilux etc.

But... Hilux came out in 2005 and is due to be replaced soon. You'd think Toyota would be coming out with something amazing yet again with a replacement vehicle!
