Hope everything turns out in your favour and your car is unscaved!

Simple, because it's not their problem.

Actually it is, they're the ones who have to prove against the thief (defendant) in court not the op.
This theft is not a civil case, therefore the police & DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) are the ones making the claim of theft against the accused, not the op.
They haven't done their job properly & have now lost possibly invaluable evidence, that may have put beyond reasonable doubt that the accused was in fact in the car & had stolen it, the CCTV footage, may not be clear enough for the judge (or a jury) to say without any doubt the person in the footage is the person sitting in the court being accused of the crime. The thief in this case may well walk from the court with no conviction.
As I've mentioned previously, I have crims in my extended family, I know how they think & I know how they get out of convictions. I also have 2 mates that are ex cops, one used to be in the drug squad & one was in the bikie gang squad, so I know the lengths the cops have to go through to get a solid conviction. They didn't do their job right the first time & the crim may walk. They also now will have to do another search/investigation for the car being stolen again & any other crimes that may have been committed with it, that wouldn't have happened if they did it right first time.

This isn't another beat-up on the police, just sayin, & most of those court cases you see on TV where crims walk & you can't figure out why, is due to this, the job not being done correctly in the first place & insufficient evidence against them.

The police are under staffed & over worked, that's usually why things get missed or the job not done right & why crims walk free. If you want a safer place to live, take it up with your local parliamentarian for more funding & staff.

It looks like the insurance will come through for the op which is fantastic, but as I said before, I don't see a happy ending at getting the car back, in tact or at all.

For someone that has extended family of crims, you forgot about the all important DNA that cops use now......All it takes is a hair left somewhere and it can be matched to an offender...

The rules these days with cops is, if you are charged with an offense, the cops take a DNA sample from you....They then use this DNA sample to try and interlink other crimes that the person may have committed.

If you doubt what I have written, by all means check into it with your extended family.

BTW I am no way insinuating you're any sort of lowlife....Just thought I'd point out how the cops work these days...

Yes they may have lost some valuable evidence, but we can only summise what the defendant has said on record, to the coppers (ie in the video and taped recorded record of interview)......If the defendant has openly admitted, on record to the cops, there is very little chance of him escaping a conviction.

Agreed definitely on that bit, have quite a few people in my area cause a lot of grief for all by getting their jollies on public roads. Misinterpreted your comment from the way you wrote it anyway, thought it was a general comment. Sorry!!!

Admission only applies to civil cases, so strange as it may seem admission is not enough to convict in a criminal case.

Just got a call from the police. They've found it again. It's only a few blocks from where they found it yesterday. I'm having it towed back to the station. I don't know when I'll get it back. They've said "no obvious damage". But who knows. Looks like the theif is free and still has my keys. I'll call the insurance company when I finish work. Since I know the details of the theif I'm hoping the insurance company hits him up for every cost possible. I'm also going to hassle the police about going back to his house for my keys. Especially with my house keys on the keyring. Either that or I'll go there myself.

I'm sorry mate, but the level of your stupidity clearly knows no bounds!

I can ignore the good samaritan act of taking them to the hospital, but after that, you've just made one stupid decision after another, without listening to any of the advice you've been given...
Advice? On this thread? So far? You need your eyes checked. Only a limited few have given sound advice here. And I'm sure he's thought of EVERYTHING that could come as a ramification of this situation. Because that's what you do. Put the world on pause & think "what could I have missed". When something happens for the first time and your clueless from it never happening before, doesn't make you stupid, just wiser in the future. Now after you have made your statement, my dear boy how about being constructive & back that up with your self measured triple digit IQ?

As for the keys, have them changed yesterday. Doors, windows, garage, letterbox, po box, you name it. Do it yesterday.

As for the car, I'm not sure how the new fords work with their keypads, but retrain your current/new ones ASAP so that keypad no longer works to the car. As for changing keys, I have no experience or ideas for that in regards to the car. That is assuming the car is kept & not replaced.

Also keep your keys locked up in a safe place from now on since a foreign person knows at least the car you have & sone form of access.

Lock up all you valuables (jewelry etc) & keep it hidden and or secured to the house.

Back up all you computers HDDs and put that external drive in a safe place.

Engrave said computers & valuables with your initials & birthdate etc possibly address. Or data dot them.

Home monitored security if you can afford it.

Will add more as I think if it.

Yes it's unessecary costs, but taking the precautions is more than worth it.

There's plenty of good advice in this thread, for a start, his insurance company would have asked if there were house keys that were stolen with the car keys (it's a standard question)... He was told by 10+ members to get his car, or it would be stolen again, he didn't, and guess what? Goneski for the 2nd time...

That's not even taking into the common sense stuff he's failed to do for whatever reason:

1. Call an ambulance instead of playing good samaritan.
2. Go home immediately after dropping them off, not hand around for pats on the back.
3. Not offer a ride to a perfect stranger.
4. Not leave keys in the car at a service station, especially not with said stranger in the car.
5. When your car is stolen, let the Police do their job and tow it, then let the insurance have it for assessment and ensure nothing is wrong with it before you accept the keys back.
6. Don't leave your car in a dodgy area when the whereabouts of the keys are unknown to you.
7. If there is anything else they could do with the keys they have (ie gain entry to your bloody home!) change the locks ASAP.
8. Call the insurance company ASAP and ask if they have a checklist to ensure you haven't forgotten anything!

As far as I can tell, the OP did none of these... And has been burned for it no less than 3 times so far... This reads like the plot to a bad movie!

Funny.. im sure the statement i gave of calling for an ambulance/ police after an accident was given a bit of a pasting......

Everyone said well done to him... sorry folks.

The most dangerous thing to do after an accident is to DRIVE patients YOURSELF to a hospital.
The OP isnt a doctor or a paramedic.
What if someone passed out in the car?
What if one of these people had a fractured neck and didnt know about it?

Its your duty of care to render assistance, but to drive people to a hosptial after they just ran into a tree is completely crazy.

How does the op know if the car was stolen? just used in a armed hold up?
If they were speeding and llost control into a tree they are either hooning, or running away from something or someone.

Last year the Ambulance service here in Townsville made it known via local TV that if you have an accident DONT CALL A BLOODY TAXI. There were several accidents in town (mostly drunk drivers) who simpley didnt report the accident, but instead called for a taxi to take them to hospital.

Emergency room here is typically full and the wait can be up to 8hrs and the best way to the FRONT of the que is to arrive in an Ambulance.

Why on earth you would wait around at a hosptial and then offer a lift is really beyond me.

how many times have you heard a news story where a person has died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital?

how much longer do you think it would take to ring 000, then sit a 20 question quiz, whilst waiting for the ambulance to be dispatched & arrive by the time you couldve loaded the person into your own car?

those precious minutes can mean everything sometimes. This of course has nothing to do with the OP's story as none of it makes sense to me, im only responding to that one statement you made

In the case of a general public context you have no legal duty of care, however...

IF you inform the injured that you are trained in First Aid and
ASK the injured if they would like you to render First Aid and
THEY give consent and
YOU commence First Aid...

YOU then have a duty of care to exercise reasonable care and continue giving First Aid until a Paramedic or Doctor takes over (or someone with the legal authority to do so declares the patient dead).

The above statement does not apply when you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, at work or caring for an infant.

This is taught at the start of every First Aid course.

So your saying your gonna pick a bloodied person up whose injuries you have no idea about, possibly making it worse (broken neck, broken back etc), stick them in your car and then speed like mad to get to a hosptial and hope you dont have an accident on the way? (In the bush, where i have no choice i would, but in town where services are nearby I wouldnt)

(then come on here and whinge when you get a speeding ticket)

If a person dies in an Ambulance then so be it.... now imagine if that person died in YOUR CAR.

you missed the part where i said my comment had nothing to do with the OP's situation. Only that part of your statement.

here i'll make it easier to understand, what if it were someone close to you, someone you gave two hoots about........ would you sit and wait patiently for everyone to get organised and dispatch an Ambulance who's probably relying on a GPS to find where you live. Or do you take them directly to the hospital where theyre gonna end up anyway

A ambulance is a hospital(basically) and will keep u alive.

Like i said could be back injuries or shock too.

About your car, expect bald tyres and a thrash, i know it was him(by the sounds to re steal it) as you say the car is undamaged but the crim has also proven he like to hoon and thrash cars.

If i was you , you know his face , wait until he come out of court and gve him a high five.

Default Re: Stolen car- a strange story and some questions...

Love how people are giving the OP all sorts of crap for helping someone....Those lot would be the first to whinge and ***** fi they were hurt and had a few dozen cars drive by laughing at them bleeding on the side of the road...or better still, given a kick in the guts while bleding.

Then top it off, the poor bugger has his hosue keys stolen, so you want to give him all sorts of grief over that....

The message this is sending to me is, if you see an accident, stuff them....Let them bleed to death and have a laugh at their expense for being morons.

So how many times as the OP been kicked in the guts.....about 4 dozen times on here + the 2 times his car was nicked. Makes a person proud to be on here NOT

Please read the manual carefully, as the these manufacturers spent millions of dollars making sure it is perfect.....Now why are there so many problems with my car, when I follow the instructions to the letter?....Answer, majority rules round here

Lock me up and throw away the key because I'm a hoon....I got caught doing 59 in a 60 zone

Enough of the crap already, the OP has enough going on w/o armchair critics.

wouldn't engraving your license number be better than birthdate? it's something the police can find out who it belongs to.

That's why so many people don't see or do anything anymore.
If the OP sat back and had a beer he would still have his car, his house keys and wouldn't be getting crap here.
