Default Steve Irwin Dead

Hey everyone,
Just heard the news of Steve Irwin passing away. Details are below

Flamboyant Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin has been killed by a stingray's barb, reports from Queensland say. He was 44.

Queensland Government sources say Mr Irwin has died in a freak marine accident.

It's believed he was stung by stingray in the chest while filming an underwater documentary in waters off Port Douglas in North Queensland.

It's understood he was injured shortly after 11am AEST. Emergency services were called to the scene to attend a man suffering cardiac arrest, but were unable to revive him.

Mr Irwin's body is being airlifted to Cairns. His American-born wife, Patti, is believed to be bushwalking in Tasmania.

Tributes for Mr Irwin have begun to pour in locally and all over the world. Eminent environmentalist Dr David Suzuki declared himself to be "a huge fan of Mr Irwin's work."

More details as they come to hand.

I was listening to the radio at work, I could not believe what i had heard. As I live in Cairns it comes as a great shock for it to happen on my doorstep. Some say he was bit of a wally but I respected him for what he did for the animal and environment community.

Trav

there is already a post about him being critical and then about his death.

By the way his wife's name was Terri not Patti

R.I.P Steve Irwin, and condolances to his family and friends. While some didn't like him no one can say that he didn't make education about Australia's unique wildlife interesting, especially to the kids. A great loss to the country and to Australia's wildlife.

Sad the hear. Poor Bob will grow up without a father yelling 'crikey' at him! :P

Shocked! RIP Steve, it was comforting to know what Steve and his family were doing for conservation, purchasing vast amounts of forrestry in Central Qld and Tasmainia to try and limit the clearance of these important locations, his wife is in Tassie at present. My thoughts go out to his family.

I don't think he meant it in a bad way.

It would've been catastrophic, if this happened, on fathers day.

It's still shocking though and I'm having a hard time trying to come, to terms with this news.

I reakon he knew exactly what he was saying, but will plead otherwise because it was sly.

Doesn't matter what day it is, its terrible.

That was a huge shock. My sister sent me a mesage saying that he had past.

He was one of our greatest known icons and he will be missed by many.

Actually just reading that post again I think he might mean that steve's last day was a good one, especially since it was Father's day.

I am totally gutted.. We need people like Steve in this world of ours. He and his family are a positive influence in a deteriorating world. Steve is also one of the world bigger envoirmentalist, which we also need. He had a certain persona they extended into his real life and was not a put on for the camera.....

It's a sad day for the world and a sadder for all Aussies...
I can't even imagine how Terry and there 2 kids are going to cope with this.....

I guess its all been said before, condolences to all....
Was only at his zoo a couple of weeks ago and the kids were hoping to catch a look at him and his antics. We all had a laugh at his exploits.

I guess our copy of "Wiggly Safari" will be watched a few more times now.

RIP....

Yeah RIP Steve.

You have to admit though, he really did play russian roulette every single time he did something like this with the crocs or rays or anything of the sort. But still condolences to all of his family.

Crickey!
Still totally shocked. I really hope his family (particularly his wife) were informed before the media found out.
He was a legend, was more than a celebrity, he was a great guy with a passion. I always thought when he was 80 we would still get footage of him doing outrageous things!
Worst thing is, although the stingray was protecting itself, Steve was the last person that was ever going to harm it.

I cannot express how i feel for his family.
I hope the media lets them grieve privately.
He will be missed...but it will be too hard for Australia to ever forget him!

RIP Steve, you have done your part for this country.

I have to admit that my heart missed a beat when I heard the news...I admired Steve for a number of reasons but mainly because his heart was ALWAYS in the right place...He leaves behind an amazing Legacy..My thoughts are with Terri and their two beauiful kids Bindi and Bob who so obviously adored their Dad...

I'm thinking of his children mostly. THe fact that they'll have to live the rest of their lives without their father. Especially Bindi, who wanted to be like him.

A good father's day = spending time with his children and appreciating his family.

As he found out today, it can disappear in a second.

Make the most of life.
