Unfortunately until the RS comes there will be a thorn in the ST's side. The OPC astra, whilst not a direct competitor the price is pretty similar. I know the astra Will be on my list. I do love the ST, but that astra is one hot looking car.
Good to see people are enjoying their ST's ford has made a real winner I reckon and have continued the tradition from the MKII ST.

With questionable Vauxhall reliability and only two doors, the Astra isnt even in the ballpark for me. And you say prices are similar, but I think you'll find its a good 5k dearer than the ST by the time you drive it away.
IF I wanted to spend near on 50 grand for a hatch, I'd much prefer the Renault. Not that I'd ever buy one of them anyway with their also questionable reliability and likely heavy depreciation. |

I love the Opel Astra and I'm disappointed that it wasn't banged a Holden. In my opinion, Opel OPC is a good car but it is already nearly several years out dated.....and it doesn't come in 4 door. (Damn). The ST has a massive brand in Europe and has been one of the best sports cars, I mean just watch the remake of the Sweeney movie and they only use fords as their undercover police cars. Actually, the ST is the main car in the film which is the main car in the film and ends up in a car chase with a V8 Jag. I'm pretty proud. Hahaha

I highly doubt it will be 5k dearer. It will be more but not that much, and badged as a Holden, thank God it ain't the reliability thing I think is a myth more then anything from what I've read.
Don't get me wrong the ST is bloody good value that's for sure.

The ST is $38,490 before on roads and the Astra is $42,990. So its 4.5k dearer atleast.
If you knew anything about the old Astras you wouldnt say reliability is a myth! |

This isn't an old Astra. I'm referring to AH and current was never interested in the older ones. Anyway I don't wanna take this thread away from the ST too much. All said I will probably end up with a MKIII ST anyway just when I don't know.

The fact these are are very good car at a very good price and is a Ford at the same time is why I am here. I have blue blood courtesy of my father. My younger years in escorts and XD's were my fondest, the ST caps that off nicely.

Read the recent reviews of the OPC, has there been a favourable one yet? Grab today's Herald Sun Drive section, they love the ST.

We are very lucky guys. My mate has a VE Holden Commodore SV6 and he was literally blown away on the int and his words were "futuristic looking." By the way. Not to boast but a fararri caught my attention while racing and we had a bit of a race. The look on his face priceless when he realized I kept up with him. Hahahaha

Apparently there's only meant to be 215 ST's bought into the country.

I heard 400......initially. Unsure over what period of time, I hear some are still dribbling in, no sign of that abating.

Saw a tangerine scream dusted off by a black WRX STI today. Looked like the same Scooby that got me on the same stretch of road, Roe Hwy bypass. You get a run from a set of lights straight up to a 100kph zone. The AWD grip (and maybe launch control?) of the WRX gets it 3 lengths on you almost right off the bat, and then it starts to slowly draw away from the Fabia.
Maybe the ST can match it after the FWD start disadvantage, but I couldn't tell on this occasion as I was going the other way. The ST still looked fast, though.

There were 315 RS's in total brought in to Australia, I don't know if the person who told you 215 was getting confused with that? |

My Ford dealer are lemons. The XR5 had a mimum service of $425 and I was told by the manger that I would be paying min $465 which is what an RS is charged at because they aren't updating there systems with the ST. What a load of ****. Three ST'S on the coast now. A black, TS and blue.

I've never paid more than 280 for a service except for my next service which is major. Hell I even get an oil change every 7500kms for about the same price as a Ford service.

Yep, I know all that, and I wasn't really bagging the ST, just noting the WRX is in a different league (or category). Off a rolling start, say 80-120kph, I think it would be much more interesting.

You get a pretty lousy interior in the Subaru though, and you also have to tell people you drive a Subaru.

agreed. the interiors on most of the Subes i jumped in were just dull. and lets face it, when you are driving the car, it is the bit you should see the most of. i toyed wit hthe idea of a forrester or svx, but they just didnt work for me. the WRX has always left me cold, leaving aside the image problem, ithe GTi was overpriced and the VW salesman claimed to know nothing about the DSG issues, and i drove the MPS and it just didnt grab me the way the ST did.

Let's face it, the Ford Focus ST is a great car all round. In my opinion, it is the most sexiest performance Hot hatches on the market, always has been and always will be. When I drive mine, I feel like a teenage kid who's just got my P's because every drive is full of excitement. Yeah it's not a WRX, MPS, GTI, in my eyes one of the most advanced performance Hot hatches on the road. I think it's stylish, contemporary and bloody quick. So if you have one, get out there and have some fun. I have raced a v8 Clubsport and won twice in a race. I think some of you (who don't have one especially) think it's not as quick as an STI. Well there both similar and the ST has more advance steering then the WRX.
SO GO THE FORD FOCUS ST WOOOOOOO!!!!!! |
