All (nearly) the kids (18-30yo) are over (youngest still lives here), the oldest with his partner.
They are playing boardgames and cards in the dining area, and finishing the last of xmas leftovers. Gee, they're loud. |

Unintentionally dropping my guts really loudly when wrestling under the car trailer outside in the street this morning, and being mortified - but then realising nobody was around to hear it. Double the satisfaction.

Making $2500 cash in 2 days...
How? Easy. I bought this: on the 27th December (2 days ago) for $4K cash. One owner (92 years on), 87,xxx kms. 6 speed auto, 2.0L donk, full service history, rego until 31/7/2025. Options: Cold A/c Power steer USB/Aux input, CD to! Tinted elec windows Remote Central locking with 2 keys Aftermarket Cruise cont. elec mirrors Ambient temp read out blah blah blah. Problems: Slight hail damageroof and boot, minorscrape front right bumper / guard. Clunk in steering when turning the steering wheel left to right while stationary. Like seriously bad clunk / slack type of thing. Watch the 1st 15 seconds of this if your interested in a video.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5BnVlfSVug Turns out.. it's a common problem. There's a plastic cog that couples the electric drive motor to the steering column. It's supposed to look like this: but in fact looked like this after I pulled it apart: So after spending $8 at a Kia dealer, watching a 17minute YouTube video and 45 mins upside down under the dash it now works as new. Car itself is mint. Dead smooth at 115kmp/h on the freeway. Quiet engine. Clean as inside. Trans works perfectly, cold A/c. Perfect brakes.. rotors not warped. Bargain. So THAT made me feel good today. Pretty bad considering I'm on holidays, and I made more money in 2 days than I do in 2 weeks busting my ring piece delivering crap. Oh well. I like being a 'dumb truck driver' Cheers, One Mad cashed up Man

…Diagnosed the damage to my Pug gearbox. Spider gear exploded, everything else was collateral fallout. Repair will be under $2K plus my time.

I've (effectively) paid off my home loan today, almost four years to the day that I moved in.
This would be the first time since 1995 that I haven't had a substantial debt (either a car or home loan). Man it feels good! Since I've been sinking most of my spare cash into paying off the home loan, I'm going to leave a small amount due on the loan until I can build up my savings a little then close it. Having multiples of 6 figures available on the redraw atm just gives me a sense of comfort in case I need large amounts of $$ at short notice. That's a nice little Xmas and new year present.

It is goof feeling owning your assets and good on you achieving this milestone, btw pay it all off, if you need a future loan, you have sufficient assets to secure one at good rates. It is a fallacy to keep your existing house loan for "future loan redraw". Get that house mortgage discharged receipt in your hands instead of the Bank holding title over your head. |

I used to walk or cycle for miles and miles but fell out of the habit as I was just so tired all the time, especially working on my feet all day long. This also meant walkies with my best friend was neglected.
Now that I have time on my hands, I've been getting back into walking again, which is greatly appreciated by the little man. We've been walking along a track that boarders the river and a large lake. Seeing as its summer, it's been pretty warm, especially for a fog with a thick black coat. So, I've been taking him down to a small sandbar on the river and letting him cool off half-way around the track. At this point I'll note that he's never really been a swimmer. At first, he played it say, wading in and laying down on his belly (this spot was at a boat ramp on the lake)..................... Over time, he's been getting more and more confident, wading deeper and staying in for longer. ........................ It's now to the point where he knows exactly where we are on approach the river, then walks ahead of me on the decent to the riverbank and wades into the water without hesitation. Today he swam right out to the end of the retractable lead. Not only does it make me happy that these walks make my best friend so happy, especially as he discovers swimming, but it's been good for my mental health as well. And after such a challenging year, that's a good thing!

well, now that I have had some time on my hands, I decided to finally drag my 2 P.c.'s out of long term storage (read: over 10 years storage).
I have been really wanting to grab a bunch of saved stuff that gives credence to what I say. So I was really wanting to find my VK Brock SS replica build pics. Didn't happen as yet. Turns out one of my Raid Arrays has an issue... the 1 Tb drive that has a LOT of stuff on it. Here's what I was dealing with: Custom made Midi tower. I welded additional hard drive bays in there to fit all the drives (six of them). So the config is: 2 x 74Gb SATA 10,000 RPM WD Raptors. Raid zero Boot drive 2 x 74Gb SATA 10,000 RPM WD Raptors. Raid zero for Hi Def video editing. 2 x 500Gb SATA WD 7200rpm raid zero storage drives. 1 320Gb IDE WD 7200Rpm in a removable rack with all of my 145,000+ mp3's. Nothing else. Just music. 2 power supplies, one for the Hard drives, one for the rest: mobo, video card, DVD burner and floppy drive. One power supply wasn't enough. The 1st time I played Far cry, i fired a rocket launcher inside a ship and it made a massive explosion on screen, big noise through the sub woofer, and the coolest part? A 1 foot flame out the back of the power supply. Screen went dead. P.C. was silent. Smoke was present... And I am thinking, hmmm, did my 2k upgrade (Motherboard, Cpu, ram and video card) just go up in smoke? Bugga. But no, it was just the 450 watt power supply that died... and back in the day, the only decent ones (750 watts and higher) were mega bucks. So I cheated and ran 2 450 watt jobbies. I spliced the trigger wire for the ATX power switching to the motherboard plug... so they acted as one when I pressed the on button.. Anyway, plugged it in, fired it up, and to my surprise it did just that. I did get an error on one of the 500Gb arrays, but it still booted to a desktop, and now I have a bunch of stuff to post that will keep me busy for weeks. Cool. That's what me ME happy until 3.45am today. Cheers, One tired Mad Man.

Today's effort, didn't even get spooked by the boat, probably because he's very deaf now.

Scored 2 cartons of mint condition T-Bird books etc. from 50's up. everything from magazines, beautiful bound glossy books, factory service manuals & specific separate parts trim & or service stuff, even ID of all the bolts -fittings etc, with diagrams, dimensions, materials etc. Several more general types like 90 YRS of Ford etc.
Going through it all atm & what we don't want will give to the local T-Bird Club - community. Was all free from a random older bloke that contacted us out of the blue! |

Few hrs cruising in the little HO........ Perfect weather for a wander along the Esplanade ..... peed that Semaphore Rd was ridiculously busy, stopping me from braving mixing with "humans" to quench my need of Fish n Fritters.
