Depends on what you want....... go or show. Personally I can't understand why anyone would even consider getting 20"s given the inferior ride, extremely over priced tyres, and in my opinion the look rediculous. If you go the turbo option it'll cost a shitload, around 10k plus your yearly 2k'ish insurance.

I think your 300 at the wheels would cost about the same with your au or a ba. You can either spend around 15k on your au, or sell and ad 15k to what you get for it towarads an xr6t

If you think copping the loss trading his AU in for a BA6T and then spend the $$ to get 300 at the rear is less than hairdrying the AU you don't know what that really cost's. Then again he may have the dollars to do that.

Im an AU Dude not a BA Dude. i like the shape of my au, from all the time and money ive spent on it, its something i could not part with. yea a BAXR6T would be pretty cool to drive, but not many ppl can say that they have an au turbo, so it would make it unique.
Money is not a problem like ive said, its time that is the problem. if i was goin the turbo option i was goin to install it myself as i was a second yr apprentice mechanic, so i have all the tools and most knowledge for the install, but now im leaving for the air force soon so i dont think i can manage with all the studies in the first year of training and still have the time to mess around with my car. but its still on my list of mods for my car....

Do the turbo and you'll have so much horsepower you wont worry about ****y accesories like 20"wheels that are no benefit at all and you will get some satisfaction too.

I went the turbo route and its great having an AU turbo. You pull up to someone and they just think another kitted up forte.. thats until you take off! The best thing about getting all the turbo stuff yourself is you learn heaps. No mod like feeling the turbo spool up at 2400rpm.

Well all i can say is based on my experience i will never again for the life of me get 19s again on any car i own.My au was perfect with 17s after fitting 19s there wasnt a plastic piece or door that didnt rattle and it really put added wear on my front end components .The 30 series tyres on 19s are too thin the car really takes a beating in suburban roads.I think 19s or 20s are good for a weekend car but not a everyday driven car.Before you know it you will also be replacing ball joints and so on,plus honestly the car corners horrible on 19s just dosnt feel right.

No. My next car is going to be a ford V8. All I'm saying is why throw wads of cash into an AU by turboing it, when you can have better power by putting the money into a factory turbo. Stock, they are 240 for the BA. So how much will it cost to get the AU upto comparative figure's?

I have no dount you can smoke a BA NA, but I think your having a bit of tug if you say your NA can beat a BA turbo.

Fair enough. If you want to turbo you AU, go for it. I've often thought about it myself. But I would much prefer to rip out the VCT slug from my AU and stick in an F6 engine. If you can do all the work yourself, think you can have some fun, save some dollars and have a hell of a lot of fun.

whats the point? my cars not an F6, its an au...
id have to change engine mounts, gearbox, tailshaft just to mention a few and that to much of a hassle already...
the engine in the car is staying, id go a rebuild if u say i should go as far as putting a F6 in...

about 5k for a turbo kit and another 1-2k for a tuned computer set up....

I'm not saying you should stick an F6 engine in it or any type of conversion. I was saying that this is something I considered.

It's your car. An Au will always be an AU, unique with a turbo yes, but theres enough of them getting around these days to make them a common thing.

It's your money. Do what you want. All I was saying is that if you want to turbo it, have you considered selling it buy a BA turbo. They are getting cheaper and are a good starting point. At 240 from factory, you can achieve more for less than doing it to an AU engine.

You can get more from less if you have a ba to start with. If you have an Au it will cost about the same either way as stated previously. Also I don't think being unique is a reason to turbo an Au, I think the most common reason would be making more power out of a car thats already been made unique.

For the money you're talking about spending why not sell the car, buy an XR8, and put a supercharger on it?

It'll still wind up costing you as much as putting a turbo on the 6, but you'll have a better car and the V8 internals will probably handle the extra power more reliably.

I agree with what steffo says about the 20s. Why spend thousands of dollars on something that will make your car ride awful and handle even worse? Performance beats bling any day.

Couldnt Agree more mate, 20's seem to cause alot of dramas, I had them on my BA for a year or so, in that time, I noticed ALOT of knocks, and noises that werent there before, now she is wearing her old shoes, its MUCH better to throw into a corner, but she has inherited some noises thanks to the 20's. Fair enough they look nice and blingy, but you cant beat HP, if only i didnt blow 3G's on wheels...................
