The Fairmont Ghia in V8 and I6 form is diffreently the pick of the crop in Mk2 form compared to the VE offereing. Never thought I would be saying that being an XR fan. Fords best chance is that the BF2 is percieved well sorted machine, while the VE experiences some new model teething issues.

This confirms my obervations when I drove a VE Omega last week. It is a great handling car but is let lown by the V6 engine and drivetrain. I am not saying that the VE Omega is bad - I am saying that the Falcon XT (even the 4 speed auto version) is quicker and more economical then the new model Commodore.

It was a E-Gas 4spd Fairmont. So yes that means the E-Gas Falcon is quicker to 60-70km/h and hence pulls up quicker.

Its a shame the magazines dont seem to come up with the same results?

I reckon the BF ESP XT would be the best bang for buck 6 cylinder in Australia, its got everything you'll ever need in a family car plus the performance advantage of the 6 speed auto and esp.

I could easily settle for one of these

And at the moment the ESP pack is going for $217 (on special) - when it's worth over $3000 or so, it's a bargain on the XT's!!

You know on that video clip some people on here said that the xt has the euro package. But that xt doesen't have a spoiler. The spoiler is included in that package.

Too many vested interests involved which prevents unbiased journalism.

I am tossing up whether I go the BFII XT with the ESP option for my next company car. I think it should be almost as quick as my current 5 speed BA XT V8.

Id say it nearly would be, because they have the Commodore doing low 7s. That XT pictured lookes like it could be good for low 7s high 6s to 100%.

Would be interesting to see how an XT six speed with an edit, exhuast and cold air went, wouldnt be hard to get 14.5s me thinks.

Hey RATT, do the Ford dealers have a database which shows what models and stocks are being held by all of the Ford dealers?

FF
it was dale ford in NSW . Only a cheap flight up , you and the missus drive home The catch is the XR8's were full BAII onroad RRP (~$55/56k ),now i have seen BAII on the road for under $40k and a Fiesta is ~$15k so all that glitters is not gold ! Plus now that the BFII pricing has been slashed in line with VE down to $45k , they would want to move these things ASAP !

Default BFII headlights

Hi RATT, was looking at BFII's and noted some XT's had black headlights and others seem to have Chrome (silver) headlight bezel's. Couldn't seem to be able to distingish which models have which, can you shed any light on the matter?

Today I saw a white BFII XT sedan at a Ford dealer and I must say that I do NOT like the new front end styling. I'd much rather the older BA/BAII/BF sheetmetal. Looks like I need to order a dark colour (again) if I order a XT for my next company car so as to hide the ugliness of the front of the car.

I hear you, the black headlights stand out too much.

Best colour you can get in a BF II Falcon or Ghia is Ego or Black.

XT has the dark bezels while Futura and Fairmont have the chrome looking ones.

I need to drop by one day and have a look at what's in stock ... and have a look at the new design ... see if it's worth getting a new ute.

You would be better off trying to get a runout Mechan1k as the runout deals are going to be pretty good. Id go for an EGAS XR6 ute.

I know .... I am after something like that ... was trying to see if there were any Magnet XR6s around in white ... there are a few ... none in EGAS ... but then RATT informed me Peter Warren Smithfield do LPG injection installs through the dealer with warranty.

Decisions ... decisions.

I enjoy the AU ute .... it is getting to 200,000km though ... it gets services regularly ... but there's always something I need to do to it though .... I know the auto is getting tired and will need replacing/rebuilding soon.

I am tempted to get a ute via Novated Lease through work ... and sell the current AU ute and put the money i get from that into a new bathroom and the remainder into the house.

So much to think about at the moment ... I wouldn't mind a new ute with 3 years warranty on it for work.

Pretty high kms for an AU! My EA has done 230,000, and it's approaching 17 years old!

Not really ... they can go a lot longer ... mind you last year I put somewhere in the vicinity of 70-80,000km on it ... and the majority of it was Sydney metro as well.

True. You can get a lot of kms out of a Falcon. Some tell me that my 230,000 is only run in! Unfortunately my lifters don't sound only run in, starting to make a little bit of noise at idle!
