The dealership is "Rex Gorrells" in Geelong. They were selling shells for AU and BA's in the magazine called "Parts Trader" last year I recall. I've seen them in there more than once too.

Today I went out to view the GTP. We managed to get to the car, give a look over before we were told to leave. It was off limits and with so many damaged cars, its an OH&S issue to be there. Which is cool.

There is not much to salvage of the car. I'm no expert, just what I see. With the impact of the accident up front, everything forward of the engine has been pushed into it. I'm sure the engine is ok, but with the amount of debris against it, I would think there will be somekind of damage to it. Engine cover was cracked with bits missing. The doors were marked in some way. The wing was scuffed, but ok.

I would think the biggest draw card for the car would be the interior, which was unmarked and 2 of the 4 rims. Maybe things like the loom and the Computer would be ok. Exhaust as well and maybe the engine and trans. But with so much against the engine, it would hard to see whether any of the driveline was ok. Not sure on the left hand brembo as it has some scuffing.

Who ever buys it, will have some job ahead of them. Being a GTP, could be some nice things available. Who knows. Good luck to the winning bidder. Don't forget a shovel for all the broken bits :

How was the rear end, no damage to either rear wheels.

The only reason you'd buy this car is for the trim, engine and trans provideing they are ok the rest is a loss. Iv'e been thinking, buy a base ba xt from the auctions for say $8,ooo, buy this gt-p for call it $6,ooo (8k max) couldn't seeing it getting to much more. Swap the engine and trans into the xt along with the irs cradle for lsd. As far as thr trim goes all that is different is the seat, door trims, gauge cluster and icc the rest is the same. A nice set of lowered springs and good set of shocks and your away. Worst cae it'd owe you $25,ooo i would think.

its not a direct front on accident....
what triggers the airbag going off is the panel inside that white inner bar structure being pushed back into the panel the sensor is inside there.

even if the engines stuffed, it'll sell for things like the heads, intake looms ecu etc etc..
then interior, etc

i'd expect someone with an XT to buy it - or a wreckers for parts

The rear bar was damaged. Ripped back at the wheel arch.

That was my mates plan. Going to buy this wreck and an XT and transplant the engine, trans, brakes and interior. A project car with the car at the end being used as a tow vehicle.

The car was sitting on the passenger side wishbone. How far dows the sump come down.

I would suspect it could be damaged. How did the left brake caliper look, scratched wouldn't hurt it but if it was dented or bent.......

Not quite it is actually just under the bonnet release handle behind the grille.

It looked ok. Not dented. Just a scratch in the middle running length ways.

Very true mate, but when buying from the photos only it's still better to know that there could be engine damage. If it's cheap enough to buy i'll be seriously looking at it, if the engine is undamaged thats a bonus.

Not sure if you agree with me or still think its inside the white inner bar structure. So to clarify for the others.

As taken from the workshop manual, in a BA falcon it is below the bonet release handle...see pic.

Also a damaged BA GT (see other pics) with no engine damage...and no leather, but the rear wheel was torn off and missing and a statutory write off sold at the Fowles auctions here in canberra a last year for $14500.

I later found out that you can get the stat write off revoked by reshelling the car, the guy was going to transfer everything to an XR6 he bought for about $22K.

Reshelling should be illegal period. If a car is written off the insurance company should break it down for parts and sell it off.

If you have the option to retain the wreck in your policiy then fine but you should not be able to reshell it as inevitably when it comes time to sell it what they buyer dont know.......

My opinion.

I noticed the car has QLD plates being auctioned in the ACT. Has Qld have a stat write off system so the cars cannot be rego'd again there?

if it had the accident in the ACT, they wouldnt truck it back to QLD just to assess it and auction off the wreck....

went and had a look at it yesterday. Damaged car area was all roped of, but it was close to where I was standing... hard to say the seriousness really... from what I saw, everything from the cabin back looked to be in ok condition, but cabin forward... there's some pretty serious damage... pics don't quite do it justice... couldn't see the engine.... I think it will be being auctioned off today....

All this talk about reshelling a car doesn't mean that you can go buy an xt and put all the gt-p gear on it and then sell it as a gt-p, the rego will always state thats it's a xt. The only difference between the 2 car's is, bodykit wheels, shocks & springs, engine & box, diff center, icc, interiour trim & gauge cluster. It takes about 2 hours to swap a complete ba interiour trim, iv'e done it to mine and there's nothing to it.

went for $12,500.

A yellow XR6 turbo manual (40,000km), telstra fleet with rear right suspension damage, minor lhs panel damage (very minor), missing grill and rh foglight went for $20,000.
And a Telstra adventra (top of the line model) with 89km (<100km) went for $6,000.

was interesting though.

fleet XR6T went for 18,800 to 26,000, XR8 28,400 and 27,400 and a NA XR6 24,000

ne of the repo cars that was there surprised me very much. A green XR8 ute, 40,000km, leather, hardcover, herrod brakes, lowered, big wheels, cai etc.

what got me was the fact someone could spend a small fortune on a car plus mods, but not be able to continue repayments. Sounds like someone was overextended financially. Don't recall what it went for, but it was a decent amount...

was such a shame as it was obviously someone's pride and joy, and a canberra car as well....
One repo I saw which would have the former owner laughing was a green commodore (VR I think, didn't have a good look). no front wheels, massive impact damage drivers side rear (pole?) transmission fluid everywhere, all in all a real wreck...... probably glad to have the repo men come.....

It is possible that the bloke who owned the xr8 lost his job and could no longer afford the repayment's, or had an accident outside of work and had to take leave as he couldn't physically work.

even if that was the case, surely everyone realises having the car repossesed is the absolute worse thing you can allow....

As I said, it was a shame to see what was someone's pride and joy that had obviously been well looked after right up to the end, and then to see it go to what appeared to be a dealer who will profit from it..

Very true mate, if i lost my job tomorrow i'd be right for a while as im paying nearly double my minimum repayments. But some arn't as lucky and have other bills to pay, wife & kids can be a real drain and lucky for me i don't have either. I did however get told last night that a chick is pointing the finger at me for her being knocked up : , i know it's not mine so i'm not to worried.
