Wow , just my 2 cents - i swapped my XE's motor and running gear from 6 to 8 years back - all worked excellent in the end , allthough was very costly - basically though - i'de never do it again, as mentioned by others you could sell yours any buy an 8 allready setup for cheaper than what it will end up costing you to convert it all . Also i dont know about todays AU model in this regard -> but -> in the XE from mid ( was around march/april i think ) 83 onwards the firewall thickness was changed to a thinner firewall for the 6's ! - thus you needed and engineers certificate to do the mod ! . Any of the XE's with 6's before mid 83 didnt need engineers to swap it ot an 8 , i dont know if they have changes small things like this as the AU series 1,2 and 3 have progressed ( to save money ! ) ??

Conversions can be done cheap if you can do it yourself. They are extremely cheap on older cars. I converted the XT ute you see to the left under a tarp in my sisters driveway in two days. It cost $500 all up. I bought a donar XD falcon with a 351 and just swapped everything over.
If you were after a 5.0 then maybe a wrecked AU XR8 might be worth while. Get all the little hard to find bits that way. But getting a wrecked T series for the 5.6, hmmmm a bit more tricky... |

Yeh I can help too, but I'm guessing you want the thing to work once the conversion is finished? In which case, perhaps I'll make the coffee.

Fellas
I went to a local wreckers this week and had a look at 2 series 3 XR8s,220kw ,these guys are ford(falcon) only they know their stuff. Engine/box(auto),engine loom(plug in to body loom),ecu, use your 6cyl accesories(mount not sure on) you dont need the K-frame just the V8 mounts, you use the same radiator,I suspect tail shaft is the same. $5500.00 for the convesion Not a hard conversion,Yes you need to go to ford to get it to run,not sure on the details behind it,will look into it more when/if I decide to swap this mill into my wagon.I dont know if an engineers certificateis required for this conversion theses days. By the way the one I was looking at had 83000ks on it and they paid $6000 from the auctions for it. Im considering it for a few reasons, its hard to find a good V8 wagon, let alone one at all,Im happy with mine it just needs more power, and its worth about $5000 if im lucky(with the ks its got on it 180ks this week) so Ive got more to loose to sell it and to find one as good as mine. A venom V8 SR wagon be a tough tow car too. If I do it im getting a wreck from the auctions .then you've got, interior(if you want it) ,dash, diff LSD,brakes, springs, accesories under the bonnet and any thing else salvagable can be sold off.to offset the cost a little. Interesting. Getting a complete XR8 wreck is a good idea. Then you have access to the cluster with the correct OD reading as well as other XR parts which could be useful. Like you said, sell of what you don't need.
Still recommend getting the car to ford to get it to run? Couldn't it be done with an edit, or you need the initial map to be loaded from ford. |

The ECU that comes with the new motor will have a map in it from when that motor was running..

I thought about buying a wreck to get LSD, brakes, interior ect, but as my plans call for full customisation : I will just do it slowly my way. If I bought the car for leather ect. I am going to have silver pipeing so the leather needs to be redone anyway. So you get the point. Unless you buy the car and have the intention of stripping it and offloading the parts you dont want.
Bucky go for it. I am sure we can travel down and help you out over a weekend if you have the parts and beer for us. :
