go stonesour... that is the best song ever i think... a song with meaning to it...
a lot of nirvana stuff is excellent if you actually listen to it... and five for fighting superman, another great one... what about tears in heaven, i know its been listed, but its so good aswell... and the flame aswell by cheap trick... any versin of heaven is sad and depressing, but also makes me think how glad i am that i have a future wife(now engaged) and a happy healthy daughter, and earning just shy of 1300/week between us, and were 21, got nothing to show for it though, lol, but thats a different story... love it right now... especially the versin of the little girl whos father died on 9/11... omg, that brought a tear to my eye, and i havent cried since pre school... anyone who hasnt heard it, listen to it... seriously... |

Ditto on 'Hurt' - Hmmm
Am the only one who thinks "The River" by Bruce Springsteen is depressing ??? He wrote it from the point of view of his brother-in-law....depresses me Smiths and Morrissey stuff is great for a downer - more so with the Smiths. Morrisey solo has pepped up a little. I'm a big fan....yes that makes me a little strange but my wife is into NIN and I think that makles her strange. Some Smiths lyrics to be depressed by: 'Asleep' Sing me to sleep Sing me to sleep I'm tired and I I want to go to bed Sing me to sleep Sing me to sleep And then leave me alone Don't try to wake me in the morning 'Cause I will be gone Don't feel bad for me I want you to know Deep in the cell of my heart I will feel so glad to go Sing me to sleep Sing me to sleep I don't want to wake up On my own anymore Sing to me Sing to me I don't want to wake up On my own anymore Don't feel bad for me I want you to know Deep in the cell of my heart I really want to go There is another world There is a better world Well, there must be Well, there must be Well ... Bye bye Bye bye Bye .. Isn't that a ripper ??? - the music is haunting to boot. |

Vincent - Don Mclean
And now I understand what you tried to say to me how you suffered for your sanity how you tried to set them free. perhaps they'll listen now. For they could not love you but still your love was true and when no hope was left in sight on that starry starry night. You took your life as lovers often do; But I could have told you Vincent this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you. I know a couple of these have already been mentioned...
"Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. This song was already an emotionally charged song, then when I heard Johnny Cash's version and saw the clip... It had a whole new depth. "Freshmen" by The Verve Pipe. This song pulls at many heartstrings. It is depressing, yet still a lovely song. Another fave of mine is 'Asleep' by The Smiths. Lyrics are above as posted by another member with good taste. As for the book... I hate myself and want to die, I bought it for my husband as a wedding gift. I laughed, and laughed until my sides ached. *edited to add* Mike and the Mechanics - 'the living years'!! My gosh. I used to hear this song as a small child and it would usually result in me crying all afternoon. Beautiful song, just a bit too morbid for me...

I used to go to the pub with my mate every Friday night at the Babylon (the fact that place is gone is bad enough- miss the pizzas) and the cover bands always used to play Pearl Jam's Last Kiss-
Nothing worse than trying to eat pizza, drink beer and have a great time and they start playing a song about a love one lost in a car crash, passing away in your arms..... THAT'S depressing.... And what's worse, is that I reckon it's entirely wrong to sing that song when it wasn't even yours- Peral Jam didn't write it, Wayne Cochran did in 1962 and it had been covered twice since the original version by J. Frank Wilson in 1964, Wednesday and of course Peral Jam.
