The only way to 'speed up' your download on a torrent is to get a faster connection, or pick a torrent which has alot of 'seeds'. Don't be a ****k*r and disconnect your seed when the thing is finished, the comunity works from people sharing their file.

Your modem or router WILL make a difference, I use a billion 7402VL and have got at best 1Mb/s from torrents with my ADSL2+ connection.

Try to look for 'scene' releases... usually the file name looks like " Doom UNRATED 2005 DVDRip XviD-LMG "

For all 'scene' releases go to www.nforce.nl it lists them all. Do a search for the release, bingo. you no longer get pron in ur dloads..

Azerus is good as you can get a 'speed scheduler' to limit daytime downloads, handy if your close to getting shaped..

Amateur LOL.. I even pulled in 4.8Gb on ADSL1..

Can you tell when I got my new router?? As you can tell, I also went to the 40Gb/40Gb plan....

I'm running so close to the shaping wire I throttled my peak torrent downloads to 5kb/s. Off peak still has 10Gb to go, so full steam ahead...

mwaha OK next time i will leave my PC downloading overnight as well !!

I must admit sometimes im not very impressed with ADSL2+, according to LineSpeedMeter, i have gotten an average of 5mb over the past couple of months, testing 12 times a day.. i know the 24mb is max throughput, but you'd think you might average a bit closer to at least half the max!!

To fix this there are a couple of things i suggest. Firstly go to http://www.download.com/AVI-Codec-P...tml?tag=lst-0-4 and download and install the AVI codec pack 2.0 there. This should give you most of the commonly used codecs. Secondly go to http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0...spot&tg=dl-2001 and download a program called Gspot. When you run Gspot you point it to the file you are having problems with and it will analyse it for you and tell you if the file is damaged or not, what codecs it needs, and whether your computer has these codecs already installed. It is a grest little program and has fixed lots and lots of problems for me.
This has been very useful.

Thanks !

do u use linespeed meter at all mate??? what kinda average are you getting?

from the looks of my graph, it would appear that my average a lot faster than most of the other ISPs, and double the uncapped telstra cable speed.. so i should be grateful in a way, but i think iinet should rename their plan "24mb if your the only person on the entire ADSL2 network" !!

What client are you using. Is the bittorrent port on your router's firewall open?

I don't use a software firewall. I do however use Symantec Antivirus.

It won't effect your DL having a firewall unless it blocks P2P ports.

You do realise that the speed you sync at is largely dependant on the distance you live from the exchange you're connected to?

In order to get 24Mbit/sec you'd have to live almost ontop of the exchange. I live around 3km and sync at around 10Mbit/sec, nothing to do with iinet's service. Their bandwidth is more than capable of serving the data you're sucking down, but the lovely thing about the internet is you're only going to get data as fast as the slowest link between yourself and the source.

Hi,
look for torrents with the most leachers and seeders.
Azureus is good and user friendly and definitely download Peerguardian from methlabs if you intend doing movies and tv series. Its like a little firewall just for torrents, sort of.Stops the movie companies and others from tracking you.
If you have a router make a hole in it for the torrents to get through, usually port 6881, but can be changed. If you can't do this get someone to do it for you.
Some modems such as the Dlink also have a type of router aspect and also need a hole punched in them.
Other modems don't require this.
Upload when you finish downloading.
Depending on your ISP ymit could be 16kps as Optus's was until a month or two ago or could be 100's of kps.
To adjust this setting in Azureus alter Tools/Options/Transfer top box.
This is usually set at about 80% of average upload speed.
Too much not good, restricts download pipe, but not enough not good, have to upload adequately to get good download.
At many sites anyway.
ISOHUNT and MININOVA best to search initially and go to others if these don't have what you're after.
Goodluck.

Yeh i know about the distance thing, as far as i know im closest exchange is about 1.5-2kms away so i thought i'd get better than 5mb average..
fastest ive seen a file download is 800kbytes a sec, so 6400kbps roughly..

then again its better than dialup which is extremely f'n painful to use at my GF's parents house haha, takes about 10mins to download a por.. wildlife clip

I used something a while ago where it downloads a little picture from ur ISP mirror, can't remember what it is now??

I get 950Kb/s direct from iinet's ftp adsl test file.

I'm now trying to get 950Kb/s from both pc's whilst pulling torrents down @ 400Kb/s..

let's see..

Meh, lunchtime.. still only a total of 1.2Mb.

Those on ADSL2, how are you finding it? Is it worth the upgrade from standard ADSL?

I currently have ADSL 256k broadband, and it's ok, but I want faster speeds. Will I notice it with ADSL2?

iinet.

I had the 1500 to start, then jumped to 12Mb. The jump to 24Mbit was not noticable on general web surfing. The page still loads up as soon as u click on it, and it's good how most small files are completed within 2-3 seconds.

Where you notice the changes is multi-tasking. I have torrents seeding 24/7 or dloading the majority of the time. You can still use the conncetion and not have any lag. The second PC can be doing it's thing too, and you would never know.

I can play games online whilst dloading @ 200-300 Kb/s and not get stupid ping times..

All depends on what you use it for.. Gaming, 1500 is plenty.

As a note, I got shaped for 2 days on my 40Gb/40Gb plan, so it certainly works for me..

hmm I'll have to try it out. cheers for that svo347.

On a side note, I reckon Im gonna upgrade to ADSL2 with speeds like that mentioned. I realise that they were quick, but dam! 256 => 24000 is faster than lightening.

An internet provider called Adam internet here in SA have a deal going for ADSL2 @ $40p/m unlimited + setup fees etc. Currently Im on ADSL1 256k and paying $60p/m unlimited. So logic tells me to look into it at least.
